The Position
The American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications and nominations of candidates for Provost and Chief Academic Officer. The Provost provides vision and leadership for all academic enterprises, oversees all academic affairs, and supports the operations of the Colleges. The Provost has broad oversight responsibilities for faculty and research, including support services such as the library and sponsored programs, support of undergraduate and graduate education (including academic advising and other academic services, the registrar, and graduate engagement), assurance of learning and accreditation, diversity and inclusion, and international education. The Provost is a member of the AUS senior leadership team and reports directly to the Chancellor.  A detailed profile of the position and the university strategic plan are available upon request.

The University
Founded in 1997, AUS is a comprehensive, independent, not-for-profit institution of higher learning serving a student body of more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 95 nationalities, 50% of whom are female. The international faculty of 340 offers 28 undergraduate  majors, 16 master’s degrees and three doctoral programs through the Colleges of Architecture, Art, and Design; Arts and Sciences; Engineering; and the School of Business Administration.

All instruction is in English. AUS is accredited in the UAE by the Ministry of Education and in the United States by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; professional programs are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), the Engineering Accreditation Commission and Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, and the United States National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The Sharjah Emirate
Sharjah has become a leading destination for university study. The third largest city in the UAE and part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area, Sharjah is a dynamic international and exciting place. Widely regarded as the cultural capital of the UAE, Sharjah hosts a number of world-class museums and exhibitions, including the renowned Sharjah Biennial and the Sharjah Book Fair. Sharjah also is known for its natural beauty, located on both the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman within easy driving distance to the sand dunes of the Arabian Desert. Candidate Qualifications
Candidate qualifications include an earned doctorate or terminal degree, significant academic administrative experience at the dean level or above at an institution based on the American model, and fluency in English. International experience is desirable. The successful candidate for this position will have a demonstrated record of academic leadership and a reputation for working collaboratively with university stakeholders to improve all dimensions of the student learning experience.
