Position Summary

The Stop-Out and Retention Coordinator will be housed on the Exploratory Advising team at MSU Denver. Exploratory Advising works within Student Support and Retention, a unit under the Classroom to Career Hub Initiative. This team supports all students in the discovery of major/minor, certificate, and career pathways. Specifically, advising is provided to first-time, transfer, and readmit students in finding the educational journey that best suits their goals.

The Stop-Out and Retention Coordinator position reports directly to an Exploratory Advisor. We highly encourage graduate students and new professionals to apply. This experience supports new professionals in the development of their foundational knowledge and skills related to academic support and retention of MSU Denver students. This includes working with students withdrawing or stopping out from MSU Denver.

The position collaborates with university departments and offices to provide cohesive coaching and academic support for MSU Denver students. By implementing best practices grounded in current theories around the promotion of higher education attainment and university retention, the Stop-Out and Retention Coordinator will develop and execute practices and procedures to support students as they pursue an educational pathway at MSU Denver.

This position is a 9 month Temporary position that is not benefits-eligible .

  • Intervene with students requesting a full withdrawal from the University, guiding those students through multiple enrollment and withdrawal options
  • Early Intervention Programming on First-year First Time to college students “predicted not to retain” by analytical data and unaffiliated with any MSU Denver support initiatives (i.e. TRIO, ISP, P2P, etc.)
  • Outreach and support for students on SAP /NO AID status to resolve their financial aid eligibility
  • Plan and execute Exploratory student community building events including new student summer yield initiatives
  • Support in-person registration and enrollment programming
  • Support the administration of balance due retention grants in collaboration with the Associate Director of Student Support and Retention and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
  • Utilize technology to assess the effectiveness of stop-out and withdrawal interventions.
  • Utilize advising systems and other technological platforms ( EAB Navigate, Banner,
    Degree Progress Report, Microsoft Teams, Skype etc.) to support advising functions.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of programming focused on retention, exploration, and completion
  • Connect students to campus and community resources based on their needs.
  • Other opportunities and duties as agreed upon between the Coordinator and the Exploratory Advising supervisor.

Work Hours
  • This position is 30 hours per week with work hours mostly Monday-Friday between 8am-5pm. There is potential for some evening/weekend hour.
  • Hybrid schedule with remote and in-person shifts
  • This is a temporary, 9-month position
