Class Summary

The Systems Administrator I is responsible for the installation, support, maintenance, modification, security, and upgrade of College of the Mainland’s hosted applications, servers, and infrastructure systems, including virtual machine environment, cloud, email, active directory, server operating systems, and datacenter technologies such as backup systems, data recovery, and more.

Minimum Education/Training/Experience

Associate Degree in Information Technology or related field and two (2) years of professional network and systems administration experience; or an equivalent combination of education, industry certifications, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Experience with Windows Server 2012+, Active Directory, and Group Policy is required.

Preferred Education/Training/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field and four (4) years of professional network and systems administration experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Experience with virtual machine and hosting infrastructure technologies (VMWare), enterprise level cloud and on-prem backup solutions (Dell), Cloud infrastructure technologies (Microsoft 365/Office 365), SAN administration, Linux knowledge is preferred. Industry certifications such as Microsoft, VMWare, and CompTIA are preferred.

- Domain controllers, file share management, print management, DHCP, DNS, SQL
- Data loss prevention
- TAC 202 security compliance
- Mobile Device Management experience ( JAMF Pro, Microsoft Endpoint Manager)
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA, Microsoft, and VMWare

Job Duties

- Install, deploy, upgrade, and maintain server operating systems
- Support and maintain enterprise grade datacenter technologies, computing, and storage infrastructure, such as backup systems, virtual machines, Storage Area Networks ( SAN ), and redundant systems
- Cloud infrastructure administration and management
- Maintain a secure cloud and server environment by monitoring security logs and dashboards, analyzing systems security, researching best practices, and making recommendations to implement changes
- Active directory and group policy management
- Maintain a document repository of inventory and operating procedures
- Troubleshoot, resolve, and document support requests submitted via work order management system
- Interact with internal ITS personnel and various College departments and divisions to design and implement campus wide technology related projects
Report, respond and document cyber security incidents

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force
frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or other wise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
