The Department of Engineering Technology at the University of Houston invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track instructional position in the Biotechnology program at the Professor of Practice level. This position will start in Spring 2023 with an annual renewable contract.

The selected applicant is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level lab and lecture courses in Biotechnology (BTEC) and support undergraduate Capstone projects. The instructor will contribute to accreditation and ensure OSHA safety requirements for labs. The instructor will train and recruit teaching assistants and work with BTEC lab managers/technicians to maintain smooth functioning of lab equipment and maintain a safe environment for students. They will contribute to curriculum development, program management, lecture and lab course instruction, and student recruitment advising, and internship placements.

The application packet should include: (a) curriculum vitae, (b) contact information of three references, (c) one-page statement on the applicant’s philosophy regarding teaching, and (d) one to two-page summary on the applicant’s previous teaching experience, laboratory management and/or industrial tasks involving experimentations.

Qualifications :
  • M.S. degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field in the Biological Sciences is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. degree.
  • Applicants who have practical industrial experience in drug development regulatory sciences, cGMP, and QA/QC will be considered.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in the general field of biotechnology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, or other biological sciences. The applicant may have gained such experimental knowledge either within academia, industry, and/or a combination of both.
  • The following laboratory skills are highly desirable:
    • upstream and downstream bioprocess
    • bioreactor operation
    • mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques
    • microbiology techniques
    • molecular biology techniques
  • A minimum of two years teaching experience is expected.
