Instructional Assistant Professor - Multimedia Journalism - (FAC002521)

The Jack J. Valenti School of Communication ( https://www.uh.edu/class/communication/ ) at the University of Houston is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Instructional Assistant Professor for the Journalism program beginning in the Fall of 2023. Candidates should have a terminal degree in the field and considerable professional experience.

We are seeking talented candidates who have professional and/or teaching experience in areas such as multimedia journalism, digital story-telling, data reporting and visualization, and emerging story forms like VR/AR and mobile platforms. Strong preference will be given to candidates with substantial expertise in multimedia news reporting that integrates digital and social media storytelling with data visualization.

Candidates must have a terminal degree in journalism or a related field, at least five years of professional journalism experience, and an online portfolio of professional work that highlights expertise in digital storytelling techniques. The ideal candidate will have a distinguished career as a journalist, a demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the college level, and the ability to collaborate with student-led college media.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate journalism classes and theory/criticism courses in a fully developed program in multimedia journalism centering on writing, editing, convergent news production, data visualization, and investigative/civic journalism.
