  • Master’s degree in Higher Education or a related field completed by start date and significant experience related to admissions and recruitment, academic advising, post-secondary transfer credit practices, and curriculum analysis.

N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Director will create and implement strategies to support transfer student recruitment, enrollment, and success. Transfer Admissions & Engagement ( TAE ) provides strategic direction and support for the main campus, online, and off-campus site-based transfer student populations.

This position is responsible for managing the TAE department, which includes 22 full-time staff members and multiple student employees. The successful candidate will provide evidence of collaborative leadership, exceptional communication skills, technological expertise, an ability to understand and interpret academic policy, and a deep commitment to transfer student success. The Senior Director will possess vision, a commitment to best practices related to student recruitment, transition, and retention, as well as significant strategic and analytical capacity. This position reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor ( AVC ) for Enrollment Management and is a critical member of the AVC’s Leadership Team.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Provides leadership for the transfer credit evaluation process, including defining, enhancing, and establishing standard operating procedures and best business practices for the various types of transfer credit evaluation processes.
  • Managing articulation catalog updates and curriculum changes with the Academic Policies and Procedures committee and academic departments at Appalachian and Comprehensive Articulation Agreement changes implemented by the UNC System and North Carolina Community College system.
  • Collaborate with key partners to create articulation agreements that support seamless transfer and help meet the enrollment goals of the university.
  • Establish and enhance external relations with community colleges and UNC System institutions to build relationships and regular communication channels.
  • Serve as the transfer ombudsperson, act as a trusted intermediary between the University and prospective transfer students/community colleges while representing the broad scope of constituent interests regarding the articulation of transfer credit.
  • Ensure TAE impacts the quality of students’ educational experiences by helping prepare them for success at Appalachian through the design and delivery of programs, communication, policies, and seminars that educate faculty, staff, and students and improve student outcomes.
