The Computer Science Department at Oberlin College invites applications for two full-time tenure track faculty positions in the College of Arts and Sciences. We seek candidates with teaching and research interests in any area of Computer Science, and especially encourage candidates with interest in theory, systems and machine learning/data science to apply. Initial appointment to this position will be for a term of four years, beginning fall semester of year 2023, and will carry the rank of Assistant Professor.

The Computer Science Department is growing to 9 faculty positions with research interests spanning the areas of machine learning, privacy, security, human-computer interaction, theory, and computer science education. Faculty members teach at all levels of the curriculum, and are active in original research that provides opportunities for undergraduate participation. Many of our majors go on to earn advanced degrees from leading CS graduate programs. Our majors are enthusiastic and actively engaged in their education. The Oberlin Computer Science department is dedicated to making CS accessible to all students, and uses active learning and other evidence-based pedagogies throughout our curriculum.

The incumbent will teach the standard teaching load (4.5 courses per year, with labs counting towards this total) at all levels of undergraduate Computer Science.

The incumbent will also be expected to engage in sustained scholarly, peer-reviewed research, including with undergraduate students, and participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including academic advising and service on committees.

Among the qualifications required for appointment is the PhD degree (in hand or expected by first semester of academic year 2023-24). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
