POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Department of Education Studies at the University of California, San Diego seeks an Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2023, to join the faculty and support a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program in Educational Leadership being implemented in collaboration with California State University, San Marcos. We seek a scholar who is committed to the intersection of research and practice with traditionally underrepresented/marginalized communities and is able to bridge PreK-12 and higher education. A strong candidate will have a deep understanding of educational leadership and organizations and bridge novel theories with methods in order to address compelling questions that address educational change and transformation in a diverse society. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to teach, mentor, and support doctoral level students who are practitioners. Experience in PreK-12 and/or higher education practice is highly desirable.

Education Studies is a department with rich research, service, and teaching partnerships across Southern California where we value our work in local contexts,as well as national and international communities. As a department, we focus particularly on scholars whose work addresses research, teaching, and service with the goal to transform education in a diverse society. We especially welcome candidates whose professional experience, community engagement, and personal background have facilitated their understanding of and ability to better serve students from traditionally underrepresented communities. Faculty are expected to have an inclusive approach to mentoring and advising that incorporates working with women and underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students.

Responsibilities for this position will include: teaching graduate and undergraduate courses; maintaining an active program of research; and guiding working practitioners in conducting dissertation research. The teaching schedule for this program will require flexibility on the part of the faculty since courses will be offered evenings, weekends and summers to accommodate the work schedules of the graduate students who will be drawn from local educators and administrators who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential.

QUALIFICATIONS Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D., Ed.D., or have advanced to candidacy in Education or related discipline at the time of application.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Doctoral degree must be completed by the time of the position start date.
Preferred qualifications
Previous practitioner experience in Pre-K-12 and/or Higher Education and record of bridging research to practice is highly desirable.
