Health Services Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide nutritional clinical consultation in both individual and group settings. Develop and implement health promotion campaigns targeting healthy eating, body positivity, and population specific nutritional education as needed. Provide individual consultations to students struggling with disordered eating, diabetes, lactose and gluten intolerance, and other eating and dietary related concerns. Ensure that nutritional programming is equitable and inclusive (E.g., embraces a ‘health at any size approach, supports international students adjusting new dietary offerings, respectful of cultural based dietary practices, etc.).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLINICAL/DIRECT CARE (75%):
  • Meet with individual students in the Schacht Center to provide information and guidance regarding a healthy diet with consideration to their unique health profile.

  • Assist students with requests for dietary accommodations through the Office of Disability Services and dining service.

  • Consult with medical, counseling, and health education staff as needed.

  • Collaborate with key campus partners as needed (dining, office of disability services, athletics)

  • Document patient progress in the electronic health record.

WELLNESS OUTREACH/EDUCATION (25%):
  • Develop specific educational programming and campaigns about nutrition, disordered eating, and body positivity, and other needs identified by Schacht Center leadership.

  • Collaborate with dining services in menu planning and healthy food preparation.

  • Consult with campus partners (athletics, community health organizers) to facilitate programming that is applicable to the needs of the students.

  • Facilitate body positivity and body neutrality programming for students.

  • Work with the wellness/health education team to provide nutrition/ dietary information across Schacht Center social media platforms.

SKILLS:
  • Technical: Familiar with using electronic medical record systems and Google Suite.

  • Analytical: Candidate must keep up to date with the latest nutrition research. They should be able to interpret scientific studies and translate nutrition science into practical eating advice.

  • Listening Skills

  • Problem Solving Skills: Must be able to evaluate the health status of patients and determine the most appropriate food choices for a diverse patient base to improve overall health or to manage a disease. Must also be able to problem solve when health education programming goes array or shifts based on people present or missing materials, etc.

  • Speaking Skills: Must be able to explain complicated topics in a way that people with less technical knowledge can understand. They must be able to clearly explain eating plans to clients and to other healthcare professionals involved in a patient’s care.

  • Community Building Skills: Must be able to connect with a diverse and global population, but must also be proficient in partnering with other departments such as but not limited to Athletics, Medical, Counseling and Dining Services.

  • Must be familiar with the Health at Every Size framework and utilize it in patient care and program/campaign design.

  • Self motivated. Be able to work alone. ​

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The individual must have earned a bachelor's degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent and fulfilled each of the following criteria: (a) Completed a didactic program in dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), formerly known as the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education (CADE).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2-3 years minimum in the field post RDN

  • (b) Completed an ACEND accredited or approved supervised practice program. Supervised practice programs are post-baccalaureate degree programs that provide supervised practice experiences which meet the eligibility requirements and accreditation standards of ACEND, formally known as CADE. Completion of a coordinated program in dietetics fulfills the requirements of a supervised practice program. Time spent in a dietetic internship or supervised practice program does not qualify as credible experience.

  • Experience working with a diverse college aged population.
