11-month full time position that assists in the development and implementation of the Counseling Center’s practicum training and newly developed APPIC Internship program consisting of SU graduate students enrolled in mental health disciplines as well as Pre-doctoral Psychology Interns completing their APPIC Internship requirement.

Specific responsibilities related to the training program include: assisting the Director of Training with the oversight of the Counseling Center’s training committee, coordination with the appropriate academic departments, annual recruitment, selection, and onboarding of graduate student trainees, oversight of trainee evaluation, assisting with overseeing the development of training seminars, coordination of trainee supervision, and the provision of clinical supervision to trainees and APPIC Interns.

Oversee and enhance the Behavioral Health Intern training program that the Counseling Center collaboratively manages with Health Services and will collaborate with our colleagues in Health Promotion and Student Outreach and Retention in the development of interdisciplinary training opportunities. May provide clinical and administrative supervision to Counseling Center staff therapists, maintains a small clinical caseload, and participates in the Counseling Center’s on-call rotation Qualifications
Ph.D. in clinical or counseling psychology required. Licensed or license eligible within the state of NY. Minimum five years post-degree experience. Experience with supervision of graduate level interns as well as experience with managing training programs. Job Specific Qualifications
Experience providing clinical services to culturally diverse client population required. Experience providing clinical supervision preferred but not required. Ability to work collaboratively and creatively in developing training opportunities for graduate student trainees. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Excellent time management skills. Experience providing clinical services to culturally diverse client population required. Responsibilities
  • Assist with the oversight of the graduate student training program including policy development, collaboration with corresponding academic departments and Health and Wellness partners, trainee recruitment and onboarding, seminar development, and supervision of trainees. This also includes oversight of the Behavioral Health intern-training program.
  • Collaboration with Training Director on the APPIC Internship Program and assisting with the program maintenance.
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the Counseling Center including provision of clinical and administrative support and supervision to APPIC Interns and Graduate Trainees and Staff Therapists.
  • Provision of mental health services including initial evaluations, individual therapy, and group therapy.
  • Participate on relevant university and departmental committees and/or teams that have the mission of promoting mental health.
  • Participate in Counseling Center’s on-call rotation.
