Position Description
The Department of Theatre and Danc e at Texas State University seeks an Assistant Professor of Technical Production (Tenure Track), starting spring 2023. New hire will join a nationally recognized department with a dynamic faculty dedicated to a collaborative and innovative approach to teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Responsibilities include, but are not limed to:
- Work as part of a collaborative team as Technical Director on Performing Arts Center productions that includes two plays/dance performance and two musicals (397 seat proscenium space) and two Theatre Center second stage plays (200 seat max reconfigurable black box) each year.
- Provide guidance and resource support to four student led Theatre Center studio shows (140 seat black box) each year.
- Mentor undergraduate students and work with faculty and staff to expand capabilities in all areas of technical production in support of the quickly expanding BFA Major in Theatre with concentration in Technical Production program.
- Produce cost analysis, construction drawings and build schedules as well as participate in tech rehearsals for each assigned production.
- Create load-in and strike schedules for each assigned production in cooperation with other areas.
- Work with Properties Supervisor and Scene Shop Supervisor to facilitate load-in of scenery and props with student crews.
- Attend Tech/Dress Rehearsals of assigned shows as well as occasional Performances.
- Teach courses in the technical production area per semester that may include stagecraft and lighting, stage rigging, welding, drafting, or advanced stagecraft.
- Exemplify professional practices and skills in the area of Technical Production.
- MF.A. in Theatre with an emphasis in Technical Production or related field.
- Three years of relevant professional experience.
- Two years of university level teaching experience.
- Experience in theatrical scenery construction, welding and stage rigging.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks.
- Documented ability to create schedules and construction drawings.
- Documented ability to generate a cost analysis of scenic designs.
- Five years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience with scenic automation and CNC router.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to shop safety.
- A positive attitude and the ability to effectively collaborate with others.
