Position Summary:
Cybersecurity Analysts report to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and are responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining IT security systems, processes, and services including computer forensics, electronic discovery, incident management, network security monitoring, encryption, threat intelligence, data leakage protection, vulnerability management, antivirus, and additional technologies to support all security, audit, and compliance efforts across the University.
The Network Cybersecurity Analyst is a level II cybersecurity position as part of the Information Security Office, in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and must maintain advanced technology and cybersecurity expertise to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability standards are met consistent with contractual and regulatory compliance, U of I policy, and in support of the U of I mission and strategic direction. This position focuses on mastery of network security architecture and cyber threat intelligence. This position will spend 50 percent of their time working directly with the university network team leading service management including network access control, firewalls, threat prevention, security monitoring, research cyberinfrastructure, and planning, designing, and improving network services. This position will additionally support or lead service management for the Information Security Office including cyber threat intelligence, coordinating incident management and escalation for network incidents, and additional technologies and service to support all security, audit, and compliance efforts across the University.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related; three additional years of relevant experience (for a total of nine) may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Six years of experience in enterprise network engineering.
  • Two years of that experience must include independently applying knowledge of one or more of: cybersecurity, network protocols and packet analysis, or security incident and event analysis in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience independently applying knowledge of scripting languages such as Powershell, VBScript or Python in support of automating production processes or analysis.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity, computer engineering, or a related field.
  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with network policy management tools (for both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure).
  • Experience with modern (“next-gen”) firewalls
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, manage, and troubleshoot complex network technologies, including IP switching and routing, DNS, DHCP, AAA, Wireless Lan controllers and access points, VPN, and perform RF spectrum analysis
  • Current professional security certification addressing one or more ISO/IEC 27002 domains and management controls.
  • Current network certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, or PCNSE.
  • Experience in customer service demonstrating skills in listening/reading for understanding, professionalism, collaboration, advocacy, objectivity, diligence, and flexibility.
  • Strong organization, writing, and communication skills; must clearly communicate technical issues and resolutions to customer/clients, other departments, and senior management.
  • Knowledge of the NIST Cyber Security Framework.
  • Knowledge of research, administrative, and instructional computing needs in a land-grant university (including library support, university advancements, academic, and administrative services).
  • Experience planning, leading, and completing enterprise deployments of new technology.
  • Experience with information security related issues involving identity and access management, intrusion detection, forensics, incident management, risk management, and/or auditing.
