Assistant Professor – Information Systems

The Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University is seeking outstanding candidates for Tenure-Track Assistant Professor positions in Information Systems. We are interested in diverse candidates whose research and teaching are in the following areas: 1) Privacy/Information Security, 2) Information Systems Economics/Operations, 3) Information Systems for Data Driven Decision Making. We welcome applications from candidates who will earn their PhD in 2023 as well as candidates currently in assistant professor positions or post-doc positions. The position(s) will start in the Fall of 2023.

The Position

A successful candidate will have strong application interests and conduct outstanding research in 1) Privacy/Information Security, 2) Information Systems Economics/Operations 3) Information Systems for Data Driven Decision Making, and will contribute to our excellence in multi-disciplinary research at the intersection of data science, social science, and decision science. We welcome applications from candidates who will earn their PhD in 2023 as well as candidates currently in assistant professor positions. We are seeking candidates with strong backgrounds in one or several related fields (including Information Systems, Economics, Engineering, Organizational Behavior, Computer Science, Privacy, or Information Security) who are interested in investigating topics in information technology, social science, and policy. Analytical and/or empirical quantitative backgrounds are particularly desirable, and so is the ability to collaborate with other scholars and units on campus on interdisciplinary research. A successful candidate will publish in leading peer-reviewed academic journals and/or top conference proceedings; teach graduate and undergraduate courses and mentor students; secure extramural research federal funding; and contribute to school/college/university service . Qualifications
  • Holds a Ph.D. in one of the following or related fields: Information Systems, Economics, Engineering, Organizational Behavior, Computer Science, Privacy, or Information Security
  • Strong research skills and focus on publishing in leading academic journals and/or top conference proceedings
  • Commitment to high quality education
  • Strong interest in securing extramural federal funding
  • Evidence of a commitment to inclusive and equitable practices

They should include a cover letter, a CV, a research statement and, a teaching statement (including a brief description of how the candidate’s research and/or teaching demonstrates commitment to the betterment of society), representative articles, and three letters of reference.
