Job Description:

This position is for a laboratory technician to assist and conduct basic biomedical research. Duties will include managing protocols, lab compliance, maintaining records and daily maintenance of laboratory. In addition, the technician will contribute to experimental design and optimization of experimental care of laboratory animals, small rodent surgeries, behavioral assays, histological analyses, light and fluorescent microscopy, molecular biology including PCR and in situ hybridization, radioimmunoassay.

Duties:
  • Assist with compliance of overall laboratory safety, as per the EHS, DEA, IACUC policies and regulations. Assist in the preparation and supervision of SOPs and IACUC protocols for appropriate approvals.
  • Assist with maintenance of laboratory protocols: will help develop and improve protocols used to perform biomedical research. Assist with management of the mouse breeding colony, ordering of mice and maintenance of the laboratory animal inventory.
  • Manage animal protocols which requires frequent interactions with the Animal Care and Use Committee. Preparation for inspections that evaluate laboratory compliance with University and Federal regulations governing the use of laboratory animals.
  • Small rodent surgeries: will assist and perform experimental surgeries on laboratory mice. Assist with behavioral assays: will conduct behavioral tests used to assess anxiety-like and depression-like behavior in laboratory mice.
  • Establish supply inventory levels and manage laboratory supplies. Develop and maintain inventory database tools. Responsible for ordering of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Supervise OPS and Laboratory Assistants.

Expected Salary:

$19.16-$22.51 per hour; commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree in an appropriate area and four years of related experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience assisting with laboratory compliance with regulatory agencies (EH&S, etc.) to ensure safety and with the preparation of IACUC protocols/ documentation for submission.
Experience managing, training, and overseeing students is highly desirable.
