The History Department at Wabash College invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin July 1, 2023, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor from scholars working in any chronological area and specialization of Latin America and the Global South History (Latin America, Africa, Middle East, Oceania). Candidates with expertise in digital history, public history, or oral history are particularly encouraged to apply as we seek to meet the needs of students in the twenty-first century job market increasingly defined by technology and public engagement.  The Department seeks candidates who also will teach World History and contribute to all-college courses, and seeks to hire from a diverse and inclusive applicant pool.

The successful candidate will teach a 3-3 course load, show a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, have an active research agenda, an appreciation for the broad intellectual community of an excellent liberal arts college, the ability to work with a diverse student body, and be willing to contribute appropriate service to the Department and the College. The History department works actively with many campus programs including gender studies, Asian Studies, Black Studies, Hispanic Studies, and more.

In addition to a competitive salary and benefits, and generous professional travel support, the successful candidate will initially be named to a Byron K. Trippet professorship that provides additional research support during the candidate's first years at the College. Wabash College is within 50 miles of Indianapolis, a major metropolitan area, and draws on the collaborative resources of the Great Lakes Colleges Association, of which it is a member.

In the midst of a strategic transformation to advance the success of first-generation students, students of color, and students from low-income families, Wabash College is committed to attracting and effectively supporting an academically and culturally diverse faculty. Approximately 25% of our students are federal Pell Grant recipients, 30% are first-generation college students, and 20% identify as domestic students of color. Wabash has been home to the Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies for more than fifty years, is a member of the USC Race and Equity Center’s Liberal Arts Colleges Racial Equity Leadership Alliance, is a top-60 Liberal Arts College according to U.S. News, and is a member of Colleges That Change Lives.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vita, statement of teaching philosophy, a diversity statement that articulates a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching, service, and research, evidence of teaching effectiveness, writing sample, three email addresses of recommenders through which to solicit recommendations, and unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Applicants must have Ph.D. in hand by start date.

Review of applications will begin on November 4th, 2022. Virtual interviews will follow in December with on campus interviews to begin in January or early February. Please direct questions about the position to Dr. Sabrina Thomas, Chair of the History Department, at thomass@wabash.edu.
