POSITION: The Department of Music and Theatre Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in music theory at the rank of assistant professor to begin in the fall of 2023. The Department seeks a music theorist who is committed to research, teaching, and leading an innovative undergraduate music theory sequence. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2023-24 academic year, August 21, 2023.
QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in music theory. (ABD applicants may be considered but must complete the terminal degree by March 20, 2024.) Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship. Previous college teaching experience will be considered an asset. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, including within the music theory curriculum. Expertise in popular music, jazz and/or non-Western music, as well as in intercultural approaches to analysis would be considered an asset.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as instructor of music theory, which includes teaching courses in a two-year undergraduate music theory sequence, as well as upper-level music theory courses. Provide leadership in music theory pedagogical practices across the music theory series. Based on candidate’s interests, as well as department needs, other courses and responsibilities are possible. Participate in research and creative activities; provide academic advising to students as assigned; engage in service to the Department, the University, and profession.
DEPARTMENT: The Department of Music and Theatre Arts serves over 400 majors and minors supported by approximately 48 faculty and staff. UW-Eau Claire has a large and respected Music Program, which includes a robust Composition Program. The Department is highly regarded in the state and region and enriches the Eau Claire community while providing outstanding academic opportunities.
