Job Summary
The Assistant Superintendent of Custodial Operations assists with day-to-day management of custodial operations. Activities include, but are not limited to: monitoring building conditions and staff productivity, ensuring custodial staff are working safely, and efficiently, and following safety procedures. This position provides housekeeping skills and individual developmental training to staff. This position also manages the inventory program and the quality control program for the department. The Assistant Superintendent may work with the Special Events Department, and other campus stakeholders to ensure proper Facilities Management support. This position requires sound custodial technical knowledge and solid leadership skills.

Responsibilities
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University.
  • Responsible for the quality of services provided including, but not limited to, correcting deficiencies in a timely manner, regularly diagnosing sources of those deficiencies, and execution of all methods described in quality control plan.
  • Work with Shift Supervisors, Superintendent and Director to develop performance feedback that will assist in the growth of Custodians.
  • Perform quality audits and inspections to specifications.
  • Regularly evaluate operating practices, make recommendations for improvement, and assist in the implementation of these practices.
  • Assist in the delivery of on-site Human Resources functions, including hiring, discipline, development and termination.
  • Maintain staff morale through promoting good working relationships between supervisors, coworkers and leadership team.
  • Responsible for interviewing, training and evaluating employees' performance.
  • Ensure staff coverage is appropriate for business needs. Responsible for managing employee call-outs before/after scheduled shift. If necessary, work additional shifts to provide necessary coverage.
  • Communicate effectively with subordinates, immediate supervisors, and management team as necessary and appropriate.
  • Knowledgeable of all policies and procedures and assures compliance.
  • Manage the 2nd and 3rd shift custodial operation.
  • Assist with educating staff regarding policies, procedures, and work instructions. Inform staff of any pertinent changes to policy and procedure.
  • Maintain appropriate reports, records and other quality control files to ensure the most safe and efficient performance of contract requirements.
  • Assist in defining and implementing the most productive work methods and procedures to achieve the maximum utilization of time and resources.
  • Responsible for the security and possession of Georgia Southern property, including, but not limited to, building keys, entrances to facilities, utilities in facilities, cleaning supplies, and equipment.
  • Complete requested daily paperwork and reports needed to ensure shift operations are operating effectively, such as time & attendance functions, maintenance logs, vehicle inspections, issuance of uniforms, and more.
  • Assist in the establishment of the Annual Special Project Calendar.
  • Assist in the maintenance of records and statistics as required for regulatory purposes.
  • Assist supervisors in directing and leading custodial crews towards the completion of assigned tasks.
  • Implement use of new methods, systems and materials, train and orient new personnel to perform effectively through formal training and in-service training methods.
  • Demonstrate a high-level of custodial knowledge regarding the materials, methods, and practices used in custodial operations.
  • Maintain and monitor inventory control system and preventative maintenance program.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies and delivery of those supplies.
  • Ensure that assigned personnel are meeting the performance work requirements.
  • Work with supervisory teams to ensure the most productive procedures are utilized to meet quality standards as outlined by Facilities Services.

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Associate Degree in related field


Required Experience
  • Three (3) or more years of supervisory and/or leadership experience
  • Five (5) or more years of experience within a custodial work environment

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
  • Facilities Management Certification


Preferred Experience
  • Three (3) years of supervisory and/or leadership experience with a staff of 50 or more team members

Proposed Salary
$50,500
