Job Description

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) seeks a full-time open rank non-tenure track appointment to fulfill the Assistant Program Director position created to launch the satellite campus of the Masters of Speech Language Pathology (MSLP) program at the Center for Health Sciences campus in Charlotte, North Carolina. Faculty in this role will report to the CSD department chair and will work closely and collaboratively with the MSLP Program Director based in Boston.

The Charlotte APD will work to develop and administer the distant program campus in Charlotte, North Carolina. Program development will follow all accreditation guidelines provided by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), the Council for Academic Accreditation (CAA), the Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CFCC), and those mandated by the state of North Carolina. The Charlotte APD will work closely with the Boston Campus Program Director to lead the program and ensure parallel and equivalent academic and clinical programming. This includes:
  • Provision of program-based student services, including management of student cohorts, their records, and matriculation
  • In concert with the Boston Campus Program Director, oversight of academic didactic coursework, including scheduling of courses, hiring of instructors, and management of any emergent issues
  • Initial oversight of the faculty and/or supervising SLPs staffing the on-campus clinical site
  • Establishment and maintenance of external relationships for the program, including negotiation between local clinical sites and management of their affiliation agreements
  • Supervision of accreditation and/or licensing matters
  • Representation of the Charlotte program at critically identified department, college, university, and external events that relate to the viability and success of the program
  • Teach courses in the program as assigned based on departmental workload policy

To this end, the APD, with the support of the Boston campus and Charlotte campus leadership, is responsible for creating collaborative relationships with other University programs and offices in Charlotte to explore interdisciplinary offerings, and will innovate within the context of department, college, and university goals and best practices. They will initiate and foster external relationships that are beneficial to the program and/or that inform program development, including but not limited to professional associations, clinical placement sites, internship sites, course instructors with content knowledge expertise, guest lecturers, industry leaders or program advisory board, alumni, potential donors, and partner institutions for prospective applicants to the program.

Additional responsibilities and duties include:
  • Developing a strategic plan for program enrollment growth or maintenance (if capped) in concert with the Boston Campus Program Director, Department Chair and/or School Dean and the Bouve College Enrollment Management staff.
  • Promoting the Charlotte program using print, electronic, social, in-person events and conferences, and other media as indicated for multiple stakeholders (e.g., students, donors, preceptors, alumni, etc.), in coordination and collaboration with the Bouve College Marketing & Communications Team.
  • Recruiting qualified students from diverse backgrounds and ensuring that all correspondence with prospective and enrolled students is accurate and timely.
  • Supervision of the enrollment process, which should be monitored for domestic and international students admitted to the program (as applicable) in collaboration with the Bouve College Enrollment Management Team, including engaging with admitted students to increase yield as well as achieving the enrollment goal with tuition incentives, as appropriate.
  • Assisting the Bouve College Office of Student Services staff with the graduate student graduation clearance process.
  • Overseeing and providing all academic information as necessary to ensure compliance with administrative processes for curriculum governance, university catalog updates, college database maintenance, Curricular Practical Training (CPT) approval, professional licensure disclosures, registration for domestic and international student accidental injury or liability insurance, and other program-specific consents and waivers, as applicable.
  • Executing and overseeing program assessment and evaluation; managing accreditation and/or licensing review as needed by specific program; and/or university requirement, including but not limited to monitoring the academic integrity of program content, managing periodic evaluation and revision of the program student learning outcomes and assessment plan, monitoring compliance of program content with university and college policies, monitoring compliance of program content with program accreditation standards, licensing requirements (where applicable), and industry best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Boston Campus Program Director or Department Chair.

  • An experienced Speech-Language Pathologist licensed or able to attain license in the state of North Carolina by the appointment start date.
  • Must hold one of the following credentials by the appointment start date:
    • Master's non-terminal SLP
    • SLP.D
    • An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D.) in Communication Sciences and Disorders, or related field
  • A record of successful teaching, experience in clinical education, and experience in higher education (minimum of 3 years) in a field related to Communication Sciences & Disorders by the appointment start date.
  • Demonstrated prior expertise with leadership, administration, management, and supervisory roles.
  • Experience in, or a demonstrated commitment to, working with diverse student populations and/or in a culturally diverse work and educational environment.
