Vocational Physical Trainer



PHYSICAL VOCATIONAL INSTRUCTOR PART TIME

(DAY TIME)

DAWSON TECHNICAL INSTITUTE

For successful completion of construction programs, students are required to complete the Vocational Physical Training courses. This position supports that requirement. Dawson Technical Institute (DTI) is dedicated to providing students with intensive and comprehensive industry validated training in the construction trade and utility industries. DTI is committed to preparing students to compete in these industries by offering relevant competency-based instruction that leads to unionized apprenticeships and other relevant trade and utility worker opportunities.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Create and facilitate lessons in nutrition, physical fitness and healthy lifestyles for students preparing to work in the construction industry.
  • Classroom preparation, lesson planning, classroom instruction (theory and contextualized learning and assessment).
  • Contact hours with students, material preparation for student class work.
  • Blackboard Learning Management System administrative work.
Qualifications - External
  • Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology or Athletic Training, Health Science, Health Education or closely related discipline
  • Current Personal Trainer certification along with 2 years of work related experience.
  • NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) Personal Trainers Certification and 2 years of work experience in the field.
  • Exhibit sensitivity to a multicultural student population.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills .
  • Working independently and exercising sound judgement; maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to students
  • Ability to work under pressure and exercise flexibility as needed.
