Job Details

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Department of Educational Studies seeks to hire an Assistant Professor with expertise in K-12 special education for a full-time tenure-track position, to begin January 17, 2023, or August 30, 2023, pending the successful candidate’s availability. The successful candidate will be a member of a diverse department that serves early childhood education, elementary/middle education, special education (K-12), and teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL, K-12) programs. Currently, the department prepares candidates for a K-12 cross-categorical special education licensure via a blended dual certification major with Elementary/Middle Education (grades K-9).
 

We seek an educator and scholar who actively connects theory and practice in the classroom and advances the field of teacher education through a focus on innovative, student-centered, and research supported special education practices. Individuals should be knowledgeable of effective inclusive practices to support students’ growth across content areas. Preference will be given to applicants with (a) evidence of ongoing assessment and instructional design experiences within the areas of numeracy and literacy with diverse learners in inclusive settings across various developmental levels, (b) middle-level (grades 6-8) expertise, and © evidence of successful university-level teaching, supervision, and/or educational leadership. Candidates should present evidence of a research agenda related to special education or related fields. The ideal candidate is an exemplary educator who brings a demonstrated passion for pursuing educational equity and social justice to their work as a teacher educator. Instructional responsibilities include teaching advanced special education coursework to teacher candidates seeking a dual teacher license (K-9 general education and K-12 special education), and supervising teacher candidates in the field and/or student teaching experiences. Courses taught will include, but are not limited to Collaborative Partnerships and Transitions for Students with DisabilitiesAdvanced Literacy and Math Practices for K-12 Students with Persistent Academic Challenges, and Special Education Assessments.
