For close to 60 years, the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has been a provincial leader in delivering future-proof education. As one of Canada’s largest polytechnics, with close to 50,000 annually, BCIT is widely recognized for its innovation, flexibility and market relevance.

Through its unique applied education model, BCIT is connecting education, industry, and government in ways that fuels growth and resilience in the British Columbia. BCIT equips graduates to anticipate and conquer the complex challenges of our day and plays a unique role in the educational landscape of the province. BCIT programs are developed through close consultation with industry and delivered by instructors who have direct experience in their fields.

Following the retirement of its President, an exciting opportunity has emerged for its next leader.  Under the former President, BCIT established a strategic vision for Indigenous Initiatives and Partnerships, led sustainability initiatives both on and off-campus that have been recognized by the United Nations, and advanced an ambitious campus renewal plan that includes the new BCIT Health Sciences Centre, the Tech Collider at the BCIT Downtown Campus, expanded student housing, and the comprehensive BCIT Trades and Technology Centre Complex. The next President will lead an Institute which has leveraged the considerable talents of its community to innovate, raise its profile, rebuild its infrastructure, internationalize, and solidify its partnerships. As Canada’s preeminent polytechnic, BCIT must remain agile, at the vanguard of change, with a President who understands how education will prepare tomorrow’s workforce.

The President should be a visionary leader who possesses the collaborative skills, presence, and wherewithal to inspire BCIT’s communities and partners. The ideal candidate effectively manages at both the strategic and operational levels, convening Board, faculty, staff, students, industry, government, and external communities to achieve great things. Leading transparently and with humility, they should live with a sense of integrity that aligns with BCIT’s mission and vision. Meaningful engagement with Truth and Reconciliation, and equity, diversity, and inclusion is expected. The President should possess the business acumen, innovative spirit, global view, policy expertise, agility, and forward-thinking vision required to preserve and enhance the Institute’s reputation locally, nationally, and globally.

This is an opportunity for a dynamic leader to shepherd BCIT through continued growth and transformation. This role will be based out of BCIT’s main campus in Burnaby, BC.
