INTRODUCTION:


The Deans Office of College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater seeks a COEPS Licensure Examiner (Student Records & Curricular Specialist I)

Academic staff positions are provided fixed term appointments with annual renewals unless otherwise noted. Reappointment for subsequent terms is dependent upon performance, university funding and external forces.



JOB DUTIES:

This position provides assistance to the College of Education and Professional Studies primarily in Licensure. This position is responsible for complex problem solving related to educator licensure and reports directly to the Associate Dean. The position assists the Dean, Assistant and Associate Deans, and works in close collaboration with the offices of student success/advising and field experiences.

55% A. Evaluation and Processing of Licensure

A1 Oversee all licensure processing, (e.g., assessing and preparing teacher licensure forms, maintaining files, processing of licensure applications, maintaining information on graduated, non-licensed students, University data entry, etc.).

A2 Communicate with departments, program coordinators, and student teacher supervisors about the licensure process, requirements, and deadlines.

A2 Determine eligibility by evaluating transcripts using guidelines set by the College of Education and Professional Studies Curriculum Committee and the Department of Public Instruction.

A3 Notify applicants of problems or omissions regarding licensure request.

A4 Designated by the Dean to act as Licensure/Certification Officer.

A5 Advise students on licensure requirements in Wisconsin.

A6 Prepare reports for the Department of Public Instruction for program reviews and/or approvals.

A7 Process out-of-state licensure verification forms and other requirements to support student licensure applications outside of Wisconsin.

A8 Track and process student exam scores by obtaining scores for test platforms and entering scores into WINS.

A9 Manage the licensure email and efficiently respond to emails and phone calls regarding licensure, e.g. student/parent questions, requests for forms, challenges/problems with licensing.

15% B. Tracking of Student Progress Towards Licensure

B1 Collaborate with the director of college advising to track student progress from their admission to Professional Education to attainment of licensure.

B1 Collaborate with the Office of Field Experience Director and staff to certify student preparation for pre-student teaching and student teaching.

B3 Attend student teacher workshops, student teacher supervisor’s workshops, and other events to share licensure information.

B4 Collaborate with the college graduation examiner to ensure licensure requirements are met for graduating students and that license-prepared graduating students are supported through their licensure application processes.

10% C. Curriculum Related Work

C1 Serve as a non-voting member of the college curriculum committee (e.g., reviewing proposals prior to meetings, providing detailed feedback and error correction related to licenses on all proposals leaving the college).

C3 Interpret DPI rules and University policy when supporting the development of new licensure areas.

10% D. National and State Data Reporting

D1 With Associate Dean, compile data for national, state, and university reporting purposes. This includes, but is not limited to Title II reports, Foundations of Reading Test, Praxis and other testing data relevant to licensure programs and shared via annual reports to DPI.

10% E. Other Duties

F1 Furnish information or refer information seekers and visitors to appropriate individuals and/or offices.

F2 Act as administrative support to the Dean, Dean’s Assistant and Associate Dean as needed.

F3 Maintain teacher licensure information within college and university webpages.

F4 In addition to the College Curriculum Committee, attend TELFE and other committees as needed to support work related to licensure.

E7 Attend and participate in Administrative Council, and COEPS Dean Team meetings.

E7 Other duties as assigned by the Dean and Associate Dean

  • Extensive knowledge of various uses of computer applications such as spreadsheets, databases, and word processors. The tools include Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Excel, Calendar, and web tools such as Google Sheets and Google Drive.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive interaction with a variety of people.
  • Effective problem-solving techniques and decision-making skills in difficult situations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective office management skills. Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and organize a variety of activities and projects simultaneously.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with others in the same work unit/environment.
  • Knowledge of effective customer service practices and the ability to provide accurate and efficient service to staff, clients, other campus personnel, the general public, and vendors. Must possess customer service skills.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and skills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $36,200 – $46,500
