Job Summary

The U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering is dedicated to quality education, scholarship, and service. All faculty are expected to be excellent teachers who are committed to innovative delivery of instruction that results in improved student learning; to using technology, including distance learning, effectively; to engage in scholarly and service activities; and to engage in a continuous and outcomes-based assessment process. Faculty in the department are responsible for effectively teaching select lower-level interdisciplinary engineering courses and/or lower level construction management courses as well as more advanced courses directly related to their specific area of expertise.

Essential Job Duties
  • Teaching: Teaches select lower-level courses as well as more advanced courses directly related to their specific area of expertise.
  • Scholarship: Demonstrates successful productivity in construction management and/or educational scholarship over time.
  • Service: Performs service within the university as well as within their professional community.

Required Qualifications
  • An earned Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2023. If successful candidate is ABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred areas of expertise include facilities management, smart built environment, virtual design and construction, advanced technologies and data analytics, infrastructure sustainability and resilience, and/or other cutting-edge construction topics.
  • Professional registration, licensing or the ability to become licensed, or certifications related to the construction discipline.
  • A rank-appropriate record of educational and/or scientific publication in scholarly journals (pertinent to one or more of the areas of interest listed above) and/or a record of externally funded research.
  • Relevant professional experience in the United States construction industry or comparable international experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • The ability to work closely with the Department Chair and other faculty on assessment and evaluation tasks necessary for the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) accreditation of the Construction Management program.
  • The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in construction management and to work with and mentor student organizations, clubs, and competition teams.
  • The ability to collaborate with related disciplines and to establish relationships internally as well as to successfully develop relationships and interact with external industry partners and the southwest Florida community.
  • An ability to communicate effectively, work in a highly collaborative faculty environment, conduct themselves professionally, and perform appropriate service functions at the program, school, and university level.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diverse range of learners and to use information technology as a pedagogical and professional tool.
  • Interest in collaborating both within and outside of the university in the development of both an undergraduate and graduate research program and in innovative and effective delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning. A commitment to collaborate with other faculty to develop a shared vision of the future.
  • Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion.

Appointment will be made at an Assistant Professor on a 9 -month multi-year appointment basis available August 2023.
