Job Description

Come join our team of more than 70 full-time, part-time, and student staff representing five continents and 16 native languages! Be part of Northern Arizona University's (NAU) vision of educating students to adapt and respond to global issues. The Center for International Education (CIE) within NAU seeks to inspire ambassadors of positive change and collaborative and innovative responses to a changing world.

This Senior Coordinator position within the International Admissions Processing team of CIE will support student access, success, excellence in education, diversity, and integrity by working directly with student applicants, faculty, and staff to facilitate a smooth and efficient application process. The position consists of student applicant processing, transcript evaluation, admission package evaluation, document processing responsibilities, student worker supervision, process evaluation and optimization, some support for the department's leadership as a backup, and if needed, some direct recruitment activities. Identifying and enacting process improvements in all relevant areas will increase student applicant satisfaction and support NAU's ability to continually admit a diverse and academically qualified student population. The Senior Coordinator will serve as a guide through the different requirements and options students have depending on their specific situation and uphold the standards that make NAU an attractive option for international students.

Admissions - 30%
  • Support international undergraduate and graduate admissions which includes data entry of applications, processing of online applications, transcript evaluation, as well as receipt and entry of official transcripts, other academic credentials, and financial support.
  • Review application materials, make international admission decisions according to established criteria and issue pertinent immigration support documents. (Support with application communication, collection and review of application materials, international admission decisions according to established criteria, and sending admission/denial letters).
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO), and develop and document procedures that guarantee compliance with US immigration regulations, including maintaining relevant records, reports, and statistics.
  • Review and approve applicant documentation for I-20 issuance, cancellation, and deferrals for graduate and undergraduate admissions.
  • On a constant basis, perform application analysis and assessment to ensure accurate and efficient processing of applications.
  • Perform admission document issuance and student communication for various types of admission, including degree-seeking, exchange programs, sponsored students, online, personalized learning and customized programs. Review and update admission forms and letters.
  • In conjunction with the team, evaluate and improve, international admissions output, workflow, and help ensure that application and prospect review occur efficiently and effectively.
  • Document and update admission procedures to reflect the most current and relevant industry standards, including documenting standard operating procedures.

Transfer Credit and Pathways - 30%
  • Work on transfer credit posting and processing for International Admissions, including verifying authenticity, establishing GPA equivalency, evaluating, posting, and developing/updating articulation agreements, managing transfer pathway partnerships in accordance with CIE's Strategic Global Initiatives agreements and completing liberal studies evaluations for potential partnerships.
  • Process Asian Academic Engagement programs transfer credit evaluation including processing, developing, and updating standards and requirements.

Campus Partnerships - 10%
  • Establish strong cross-campus partnerships and training with the athletics department administration and coaches, as well as major specific advisors, faculty and staff in departments and other potential or current partners across campus to facilitate understanding of admission processing and the decision process, and service as point of contact in CIE for any questions pertaining to international students.

Scholarship Management - 10%
  • Record and gather relevant information and deliver reports to the international recruitment area that will inform and support their ability to manage the tracking and awarding of CIE's allotted budget for the International Excellence Award. This includes tracking student eligibility, renewing of the awards each semester, and managing community service events.

Social Media - 5%
  • If indicated by the supervisor, coordinate strategic social media marketing efforts in line with CIE's and NAU's overall marketing strategy. This could include working with representatives from each of CIE's divisions to create and develop marketing materials including webinars, videos, vlogs, Facebook live sessions and marketing videos, and organizing strategic, cross-division social media representation for CIE.

Transfer Partnerships - 5%
  • As needed, support the recruitment team strategy and management of community college partnerships and recruitment within the United States, including developing relationships with counselors and staff, developing MOU's and processing articulation agreements.

Recruitment - 5%
  • When needed, assist in international recruitment trips and efforts and serve as the main point of contact for any potential international transfer students from other U.S. institutions.

Other - 5%
  • Remain current on student related immigration regulations and credential evaluation procedures and policies through participation in internal and external trainings, seminars, conferences, and other professional opportunities.
  • Develop and document procedures that guarantee compliance with US immigration regulations, including maintaining relevant records, reports, and statistics.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Student Affairs, International Affairs, Business, Sociology, Education, or a related degree.
  • Worked, lived, or studied abroad.
  • Minimum of three years or an equivalent combination of professional work experience, education, and training in higher education or business.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years' professional experience in international education, admissions, or student recruitment.
  • Experience in Transcript Evaluation.
  • Master's degree in Student Affairs or a field relevant to international student recruitment.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, SalesForce, Sunapsis, or other university-related student management systems.
  • Experience in international student academic and/or immigration advising.
  • Served as a Designated School Official (DSO).
  • Experience working with transfer credit evaluation .
  • Fluent in at least one language in addition to English.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Salary range begins at $47,364. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
