On Call Librarian

  • This is a part-time, non-tenure track position supporting the Sister Mary Joseph Cunningham Library’s Reference Services. On Call Librarians work as part of our team of librarians providing outstanding reference services to the GCU Community, while maintaining effective library operations.

    On Call Librarians are scheduled for regular evening and/or weekend shifts during the Fall and Spring semesters, as well as some daytime hours when needed.

    Possible Scheduling:
    Monday – Thursday 5 – 8 p.m.
    Saturday: 10 – 6 p.m.
    Sunday: 2 – 9 p.m.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide reference service and assistance to students and faculty members in finding and evaluating library materials and relevant resources face to face and online using LibChat.
  • Provide specialized research assistance to students and faculty as needed.
  • In the absence of full-time librarians and the Access Services Generalist, the On Call Librarian is responsible for the overall supervision of library operations and the library building.
  • At times, will be responsible for the timely opening and closing of the library as scheduled.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to maintain effective library operations and support student success.
  • Integrate the core values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice and service in all aspects of interaction.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • An MLS, or other master's degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or from a program accredited in a country with a formal accreditation process as identified by ALA’s Human Resource Development and Recruitment Office. Second masters/advanced degree desirable.
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience providing reference service preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of library resources and services.
  • Knowledge of current information literacy methods (e.g., Framework) and best practices.
  • Proficiency in Windows applications and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience using education software programs, like Blackboard and LibGuides is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
