Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Office of Accessibility Services is committed to providing appropriate and reasonable accommodations in compliance with the American Disabilities Act of 1990 ( ADA ) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and their respective amendments. Additionally, we seek to educate the Wheaton Community on the rights and needs of students with disabilities.

Under the direction of the Director of Accessibility, the Accessibility Specialist will serve as a resource for supporting various aspects of accessibility services for students across the campus and in all Wheaton College programs and services. The Accessibility Specialist will work with the Director of Accessibility to provide outreach, direct services to students, and support faculty and other staff across Wheaton in achieving the letter and spirit of ADA, Section 504 of 1973 and Section 508.

Essential Functions:

· Conduct consultation with prospective and current students on accessibility services, process registration of students for accommodations and review various forms of documentation to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations.
· Collaborate and work closely with faculty to receive and respond to questions on how to best implement accommodations, process referrals and provide support to concerns about student wellness.
· Work one-on-one with students and support students in accessing other needed resources for success.
· Assist the Director with processing requests for alternative formats of text, video and other media which present barriers to access.
· Coordinate Note Sharer Network including recruiting, training, and tracking note sharers
· Coordinate Testing Center
· Maintain student files, update of accommodation letters and routinely manage Accommodate
· Support efforts to promote a culture that is equitable and accessible to the broadest range of learners and abilities through a lens of diversity, equity and inclusion.
· With the Director of Accessibility Services, the Accessibility Specialist will work closely with members of the Filene Center, including Academic Advising and Career Services, to ensure high-quality student services and student success

Other Duties:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field, including psychology, education, vocational rehabilitation, or other

• 2 years of experience working with people who have disabilities in an educational or social services setting

• Basic knowledge of ADA, Section 504 and Section 508

Preferred Qualifications:

• Masters in Special Education, Counseling, Social Work or Higher Education

• 3 years of experience working with students in an educational setting with disabilities and providing accommodations

• Experience in reviewing IEPs, 504 plans, medical documentation, neurological psychiatric evaluations and other forms of documentation

• Knowledge of current trends and best practices in higher education for accessibility

• Experience and dedication to general diversity, equity and inclusion values with an emphasis on accessibility
