Job Description:
Champlain College is in the market for a wildly pragmatic lover of the Arts and Media to bring their curatorial vision to our campus while managing the day to day operations of our intimate art gallery. This role will collaborate with the Communications and Creative Media (CCM) division as well as other divisions and faculty/staff partners to showcase relevant work and promote the work of students, faculty and staff as well as outside artists. Exhibitions will enhance the visibility of Champlain College as a driver of the Vermont creative community by attracting members of the local and regional communities to campus.

The Director oversees all aspects of running a variety of exhibitions in digital and traditional media as well as lectures. This position will oversee use of art exhibition space throughout the campus. This includes, but is not limited to, grounds, classroom buildings, administrative offices, the Miller Information Commons/Library, Perry Hall, Lakeside and the Gallery.

  • In conjunction with division and faculty partners the Director seeks to identify activities that support the academic divisions' goals. This may include:
  • Creating professional-quality exhibitions of student and faculty work; including coordination of senior and end-of-year shows for a variety of academic programs.
  • Organization of one visiting art exhibition per year, to include lectures by a visiting artist. 
  • Organization of one visiting curator exhibition with lecture per year. 
  • Organization of artist commission for annual site-specific interactive digital artwork in CCM building.
  • Coordination of Champlain's exhibitions for SEABA's annual Art Hop event.
  • Create special events such as workshops, artist receptions, host special groups such as networking events (i.e. Vermont Professionals of Color Network), city-wide celebrations (i.e. Pride Festival & Parade), and school groups 
  • Collaborate with the College's Marketing department to develop publication strategies and materials (print, web, social media, etc.) consistent with the College's brand. Keep the Art Gallery website and social media up to date and current.
  • Oversee a small team of student employees.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with digital art
  • College-level teaching experience a plus
