Job Description:

The Department of Education at Assumption University seeks to hire adjunct instructors to supervise teacher candidates (student teachers) during the spring 2023 semester. The Assumption teacher candidates will be in-person at local area schools (K-12). Adjunct instructors (known as program supervisors) will supervise students in public schools and will facilitate weekly seminars on Assumption's campus.

The department is seeking adjunct instructors for elementary practicum and seminar (EDU 420 and 420S: Practicum and Seminar at the Elementary Level). The student teaching practicum involves a partnership among the teacher candidate, the supervising practitioner (classroom teacher), the Assumption program supervisor, and the Education department at Assumption College. It is a two-course position.

The program supervisor's primary responsibilities are to: attend all program supervisor trainings; communicate with the triad of teacher candidate, supervising practitioner, and Education department chair; coordinate the Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP) process; conduct at least four formal observations of each candidate in the field, including post-observation debriefing meetings and calibration with the supervising practitioner; maintain and submit data on each candidate's performance on CAP through the online CAP platform; and lead a weekly 2.5-hour seminar for their teacher candidate cohort. Cohorts are composed of five to six elementary (1-6) teacher candidates. EDU 420/420S and 440/440S run from January to May 2023.

Adjuncts are welcomed as important contributors to the department and to our teacher candidates. They are provided with office space, email, voicemail, support for using our learning management system (Brightspace), and other resources needed for quality teaching. Successful candidates may have the possibility of teaching additional courses in subsequent semesters.

Applicants must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.

A Master's degree is required. Current or recent teaching or administrator license at the professional level. Knowledge of and experience in a 1-12 classroom setting, including at least four years teaching experience. Experience mentoring novice teachers. Demonstrated ability to collaborate in a team environment. Strong communication, record keeping, and organizational skills including use of an on-line platform for data collection. Availability during the K-12 school day and on Wednesday afternoons is a must.

All candidates are subjected to a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check.

Application Instructions:

Please submit a letter of interest, a Curriculum Vitae, and names and contact information of two references who can attest to your teaching experience and qualifications. Materials must be submitted online as MS Word documents or PDF files at the following web site:?
