Full Time
Academic Advising is seeking an academic success coach who will be responsible for overseeing coaching activities to increase retention and graduation of academic coaching program students. The academic success coach is responsible for staying current on policies and procedures as they relate to academic advising and on best academic coaching practices. The academic success coach will work collaboratively with units on campus providing academic and transitional resources to students, making appropriate referrals.
Primary Responsibilities
Oversee academic coaching activities to increase retention and graduation of academic coaching program participants:
- Implements and coordinates activities and services for participants transitioning to college (i.e time management skills, development of study habits, understanding financial responsibility and financial aid/scholarship opportunities and resiliency skills.)
- Connects students to campus resources based on identified student needs
- Conducts one-on-one meetings with students to check academic progress, addressing transition concerns
- Utilizes the early alert system, SupportNET, to create success plans, monitor flags, keep detailed meeting notes and document referrals to university resources
- Interpret and learn academic policies and procedures
- Identify academic objectives
- Identify major and career options
- Freshmen orientation
- Transfer orientation
- International student orientation

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Knowledge of academic advising, counseling or closely related area through work experience or an educational setting
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience working as part of a team in a collaborative work environment
- Evidence of the ability to exercise sound judgment
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend hours consistent with student needs
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with international students, multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
