Case Manager for Undergraduate Students

We are seeking a Case Manager for Undergraduate Students who will reporting to the Associate Director of Student Outreach & Support and working as part of the Student Outreach & Support team within the Dean of Student Life, the FLI Case Manager maintains high student contact and a caseload to address the needs of students who have problems in areas such as physical or mental health, finances, family and interpersonal concerns and social adjustment that may affect their academic performance or other aspects of their JHU experience, using a variety of interventions, referrals and follow up services. This Case Managers role works to support first generation/limited income students at JHU as well as collaborate with offices across campus who also have high contact with FLI students. Responsibilities will include student contact via regular meetings, triage, case management, and collaboration and consultation with colleagues within Center for Student Success and faculty within the Division of Student Affairs, University Administration, the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering. While strong, supportive relationships may develop with students, the Case Manager does not engage in individual therapeutic relationships.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Student-Facing Responsibilities

  • Meet 1:1 with students initially and regularly to develop individual student success plans based on their unique circumstances and track their progress towards their personal and academic goals.
  • Collect, evaluate and record all facts pertaining to student cases that come in through Maxient online management and referrals.
  • Work as the SOS liaison with the Center for Student Success.
  • Document all information and communication in Maxient.
  • Formulate intervention plans in order to enhance the academic success of students.
  • Contact and collaborate with other University departments to expedite resolution of problems.
  • Provide referrals to support services within the University as well as community agencies.
  • Follow up and track prior cases to ensure student compliance with recommendations and adequate staff support for the student.
  • Collect all pertinent information for a student requesting a medical leave of absence and emergency leave of absence, making a recommendation to the Leave of Absence Case Manager.

Systems Management & Reporting

  • Maintain and monitor factual case records in a variety of electronic student record systems (Maxient, Starfish, Student Information System).
  • Interpret University policy regarding students and making recommendations when policy changes are needed, based on trends in data.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports, data requests and annual report for internal stakeholders.
Outreach, Training and Education
  • Assist in training and consulting with faculty, staff, students, parents, and external stakeholders on referrals.
  • Create and partner with campus colleagues to create presentations for staff/faculty/students around the FLI student experience.
  • Provide relevant training around resources and support to campus partners including, but not limited to Center for Student Success, Campus Safety and Security, Academic Advising, Counseling Center, Health and Wellness.
  • Develop and distribute of appropriate marketing materials.
  • Participate fully in the programming sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students, including but not limited to Orientation, Family Weekend, Senior Week, and Commencement.
  • Some night and weekend work required.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in education, Counseling, Social Work, Public Health or related field.
  • Experience working with college aged students.
  • Experience working in crisis situations.
  • Experience using Maxient and Starfish.
  • Three to five years experience in higher education or closely related setting; experience managing response to crisis situations; experience working as part of case management support team and experience navigating complex, decentralized environments.
Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online student tracking systems and database management.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly synthesize information from a variety of sources in order to make informed recommendations for the best welfare of the students.
  • Knowledge of current case management trends and literature preferred.

Starting Salary Range: $46,560-$64,100 Annually (Commensurate with experience)

30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
