The Office of Human Resources is seeking candidates for a Classification and Compensation Manager.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the Classification and Compensation Manager performs managerial level duties in the areas of position classification and compensation. This position is responsible for implementing and communicating classification and compensation policies and practices to all employees and for administering a sound compensation plan in order to attract and retain employees. This position administers salary changes and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, union agreements and NJ Civil Service guidelines.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develops, deploys and maintains well-articulated compensation guidelines and procedures for non-unit and grant funded positions.
  • Conducts compensation reviews, provides recommendations based on market trends, competitive practices and internal and external equity.
  • Evaluates external market data and compares current salary structures to make recommendations on salary structure movement.
  • Collaborates with Associate Director on determination for new hire salaries, reclassifications, promotions, transfers and other compensation actions by ensuring compliance pay equity and bargaining unit agreements.
  • Administers and interprets compensation and classification plans and provides consultative services to the TCNJ community.
  • Conducts NJASCU, and other related salary surveys to maintain appropriate compensation levels.
  • Creates and maintains metrics related to compensation, employee salary changes, etc.
  • Conducts job evaluations for new and changed positions to determine appropriate classification, exemption status, union alignment and salary range in accordance with Civil Service and internal guidelines
  • Oversees the Human Resources function of the desk audit process in accordance with Civil Service guidelines.
  • Monitors and tracks the requests for classification and reclassification changes.
  • Ensures proper documentation, data entry (PMIS,HCM Cloud), and communication related to classification changes.
  • Oversees the tracking of provisional appointments, working test periods, reappointments. Facilitates and monitors the Civil Service promotional tests for classified employees.
  • Works with the HRIS team to create and update position management tables in HCM Cloud.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of five years of experience managing, coordinating and administering compensation
  • Experience supervising, mentoring and developing staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Human Resources certification, Certified Compensation Professional - CCP.
  • Experience in higher education or public or academic institutions strongly preferred
