Monmouth College, a selective, private, residential liberal arts college in Illinois invites applications for a tenure-track position in Engineering to help us continue to write a new chapter in our tradition of educating students.

In keeping with our liberal arts mission, we seek to educate engineers broadly, producing engineering graduates who are outstanding technical problem solvers, who understand culture and context, and who can communicate their ideas clearly. The ideal candidate will be able to teach core mechanical and electrical engineering courses and elective courses in the area of specialty. Although all candidates with mechanical, electrical or engineering background will be considered, those with experience in mechatronics, robotics, automatic controls, or manufacturing are preferred. Working in the Department of Physics and Engineering, the new faculty member will help build an ABET-accredited program offering a B.S.E. with emphases in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professor to help build and shape an innovative program in a creative way. Our new colleague will have deep interests in teaching and will continue to develop professionally in ways that support undergraduate students. We are particularly interested in increasing participation and success in engineering by underrepresented groups. Teaching and/or industry and/or post-doctoral experience is a plus. Rank is negotiable, depending upon previous experience. Limited startup funds available.

Located in the welcoming community of Monmouth, Illinois, Monmouth College is a member of the prestigious Associated Colleges of the Midwest. The college is ranked 70th out of 240 schools in the “National Universities – Liberal Arts” category by Washington Monthly, and College Factual recognized it in the top 5% of U.S. colleges that provide value for students. U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges ranks Monmouth No. 17 in the nation among liberal arts colleges in terms of social mobility and places it in the top tier of National Liberal Arts Colleges.

Review of applications will begin on January 2, 2023, and proceed until the position is filled.  To apply, please send by email a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy (including a discussion of diversity, inclusion, and increasing the participation and success of underrepresented groups in engineering), a statement of research/professional development interests, and a list of three references to Deena McLaughlin at dlfisher@monmouthcollege.edu.

The college offers a competitive salary and attractive benefit package, including retirement plan, health and dental insurance plan, and certain tuition benefits for eligible dependents.
