The Department seeks exceptional candidates with (1) leadership experience, (2) a demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity, (3) excellence in undergraduate and graduate education and (4) a record of high-quality research and scholarship. Successful candidates will demonstrate a clear vision for supporting the growing academic programs of the department, pursuing and receiving CEPH accreditation as a standalone bachelor program, and expanding the research enterprise of the Department, including mentorship of junior faculty; a plan for the continued success of graduate and undergraduate educational programs; and the ability to build strong relationships with local industry, community partners, and other academic departments.

Experience in multicultural, diversity and power and privilege practice, demonstrated experience successfully teaching, mentoring, and advising diverse, underserved students, including students of color and non-traditional students, or other activities related to diversity, equity and inclusion should be highlighted by the applicant.

As UTSA is only one of 19 Carnegie R1 Hispanic Serving Institutions, the Department of Public Health and the College for Health, Community and Policy are focused on increasing national and international recognition as an institution of research excellence. The Department of Public Health currently has 10 full-time faculty, 1000 undergraduate students, and 30 graduate students in an M.S. in Health and Kinesiology program (jointly administered with the Department of Kinesiology). Qualifications

The required qualifications of the successful candidate are a doctorate in Public Health, Health Promotion/Education, Community Health, Epidemiology or related field; experience in an academic leadership/administrative position; demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity; and outstanding research and teaching records that warrant an appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure at an R1 institution (contingent upon Board of Regents approval).

The preferred qualifications are experience in an academic supervisory capacity (ideally Department Chair); knowledge of innovative curriculum development and implementation; experience with CEPH accreditation; experience with AUPHA or CAHME; mentorship of junior faculty; experience with fiscal management responsibilities; and experience with community and other external partners.
