Position Description

The Clinical Laboratory Science Program invites applications for a faculty position at the Clinical Assistant, Clinical Associate, or Clinical Professor rank. This position will be a nontenure line, nine-month faculty position with possible summer employment. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications. All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Primary responsibilities include:
1. Involved in delivery of CLS curriculum as a didactic or laboratory course faculty member as assigned.
2. Develop, deliver, and evaluate on-campus instruction, to include course goals, objectives, learning activities and student evaluation methods (examinations, projects, assignments, etc.).
3. Serve as an effective academic advisor to CLS students.
4. Provides assistance and back-up to clinical placements and evaluation of clinical rotations.
5. Assists in the recruitment of qualified students into the program, including review of applicants.
6. Works on departmental, college and university committees.
7. Interacts with the other department programs within the College of Health Professions, The Graduate College and other university programs.
8. Supports professional, community and continuing education service activities within the programs.
9. Performs administrative tasks as assigned by the Unit Chair.
10. Supports the mission, vision, goals and strategic objectives of the college and university.

All positions are subject to availability of funds.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications for Clinical Assistant Professor:
1. Earned Master’s degree in MLS, CLS, or related field (e.g., Education) from an accredited university is required at the time of appointment.
2. A MLS /MT ( ASCP ) Certification or equivalent.
3. A minimum of five years of full-time experience beyond entry level in clinical laboratory practice or management (hematology, clinical microbiology, clinical chemistry, clinical immunology, or immunohematology).
4. Demonstrates the ability to communicate ideas clearly and to work effectively with others.
5. Demonstrates current and contemporary competence in clinical practice or management.
6. Membership in professional laboratory organization (i.e., ASCLS, AACC, ASCP )
7. Engages in scholarship through relevant professional presentations, workshops, or publications; and exhibits leadership in relevant professional organizations.

Required qualifications for Clinical Associate Professor:

1. Earned Master’s degree in MLS, CLS, or related field (e.g., Education) from an accredited university is required at the time of appointment.
2. A MLS /MT ( ASCP ) Certification or equivalent.
3. A minimum of 10 years of full-time experience beyond entry level in clinical laboratory practice or management (hematology, clinical microbiology, clinical chemistry, clinical immunology, or immunohematology).
4. A minimum of five years of experience in professional education at the university level.
5. Demonstrates the ability to communicate ideas clearly and to work effectively with others.
6. Demonstrates current and contemporary competence in clinical practice or management.
7. Exhibits participation or leadership in laboratory organizations (i.e., ASCLS, AACC, ASCP ).
8. Engages in scholarship through relevant professional presentations, workshops, or publications; and exhibits leadership in relevant professional organizations..

Required qualifications for Clinical Professor:

1. Earned Master’s degree in MLS, CLS, or related field (e.g., Education) from an accredited university is required at the time of appointment.
2. A MLS /MT ( ASCP ) Certification or equivalent.
3. A minimum of 15 years of full-time experience beyond entry level in clinical laboratory practice or management (hematology, clinical microbiology, clinical chemistry, clinical immunology, or immunohematology).
4. A minimum of 10 years of experience in professional education at the university level.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly and to work effectively with others.
6. Demonstrates current and contemporary competence in clinical practice or management.
7. Demonstrates leadership in laboratory organizations (i.e., ASCLS, AACC, ASCP ).
8. Engages in scholarship through relevant professional presentations, workshops, or publications; and exhibits leadership in relevant professional organizations.
9. Documents recognition by peers for professional contributions (e.g., awards)

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience in teaching in-person, on-line, or hybrid courses in clinical laboratory science.
2. Experience in assessing student learning outcomes for accreditation, program review, and assessment.
3. Management or supervisory position in clinical laboratory practice.
4. Documentation of recent and ongoing professional development.
5. Experience in building and promoting community relationships.
6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills within a diverse environment.
7. Proficiency in spreadsheets, data analysis, report writing, Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas), and video conferencing (e.g., Zoom), Program Inventory Management and Course Inventory Management Systems.
8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills within a diverse environment.
9. Eighteen (18) or more graduate credits in clinical / medical laboratory science.
