JOB SUMMARY:

Instructional designers are members of the Instructional Design and Online Course Support (iDocs) team and report to the managing director. The CoB Online Programs team works to design and deliver courses offered through the University of Wisconsin MBA Consortium and UW System Undergraduate Business Alliance programs.

The CoB Online Programs team primarily works in a remote environment. One day per week is reserved for working on the UW-Eau Claire campus but is only used as needed. On rare occasions there may be other days throughout the year that campus time is required, for example attending a retreat or required professional development. Employees are welcome to work on campus more often if desired. A typical workday consists of eight hours worked primarily between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. although we offer a great deal of flexibility; your typical daily schedule will be agreed upon in advance with the supervisor. As a service department, we have a great deal of collaboration within our team and externally. We facilitate this collaboration primarily using Microsoft Teams whether individuals are working on campus or remotely.

Instructional designers manage course development or revision projects while collaborating with subject matter experts; manage, maintain, and support courses; provide professional development for our instructors; and participate in professional development to enhance job-related skills. In our environment, instructional designers partner with instructors to provide in-depth consultation and co-develop course materials. As many of the instructors for our collaborative programs are not in Eau Claire, meetings often occur remotely through Teams and much communication occurs via email, making the ability and willingness to build relationships virtually important attributes of our instructional designers.
