Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Math, Engineering or other related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years progressive experience in the field of information technology;
or
  • Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years progressive experience in the field of information technology;
or
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The role of an Infrastructure Architect is to help architect solutions for the services provided by the Infrastructure team. This will include meeting with stakeholders to determine needs and requirements. When architecting a solution, you will work with stakeholders, other architects, engineers, and Support personnel to architect a complete solution, including all phases of the project. (Ex. needs gathering, solution standup, operational and maintenance planning, support needs, and ongoing improvement/upgrade planning).

Once a solution is architected, you will work closely with other members of your team and other areas of ITIS / ITS for implementation.

You will have the opportunity to develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the infrastructure solutions provided by your team. You will be given opportunities to develop this knowledge through training and education opportunities and by working with other ITS members. Additionally, you will develop one or more specializations in certain technology areas your team oversees. Investigation and reporting on new technologies will also be part of your responsibility.

Architecture:
Design / Plan / Implement and support campus network architecture and functionality changes in
core routing/switching, and data centers, as well as maintaining our connectivity to our ISP .
Including:
  • Campus exterior gateway protocol ( BGP ) routing architecture with NCREN / Internet2 / Internet
  • Campus WAN connectivity.
  • Connectivity to local commercial/non-University locations with University-related endeavors.
  • Campus VoIP services IP infrastructure
Consultancy Services :
Provide consultancy services to stakeholders as it relates to current or potential offerings. It will be
the responsibility of this position to counsel customers on best-practice approaches as it pertains to networking for any new IT project they will be implementing. Plan, implement and support
networking requirements for campus research projects, as required; Investigate and prototype
emerging network technologies and plan for production introduction of network technologies new to Appalachian State University.

Problem Resolution:
Work on customer issues/requests as the needs arise (through tickets, emails, or other
means). This includes but is not limited to doing the following to service those needs: VLAN
changes, switch/router/firewall configuration, using advanced troubleshooting tools (for
example, packet capturing or spectrum analyzers), and professionally interacting with the customers to fully understand their problems.

Suggested Salary Range
$103,000 - $114,628
