Work Schedule: Most Emeritus classes are offered Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 8:30pm. Employees must reside in California while employed with NOCCCD, even during remote work.

Job Description:
North Orange Continuing Education is now accepting applications for part-time noncredit Emeritus Program (formally Older Adults Program) instructors to teach at our main campuses, community-based locations, and online through Distance Education (DE) starting in the 2021-22 academic year. Subjects may include, but are not limited to: Communication, Creative Arts. Physical and Brain Health, and Mature Driver. Part-time, temporary, hourly assignments are on an as-needed basis.

Various schedules and locations are available. Hours will vary depending on class(es) assigned.

Painting for Older Adults - This class offers older adults an individualized approach to learning painting and artistic expression at their own pace and within their interest and style. Older adult students will learn techniques in drawing, brush strokes, color mixing and application.

China Painting for Older Adults - China painting are presented to older adult students through demonstration and individual instruction. The older adult students will learn techniques such as brush strokes, blending, shading, grounding and masking. Final class projects are heirloom-quality artworks that maybe displayed in a community art exhibit.

Primary Purpose:
Duties and responsibilities as presented are intended to be representative and not restrictive. The District reserves the right to modify the assignment and allocation of duties in accordance with operational needs.

Special Requirements:
The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. If degree award date is not posted on transcript your application will be deemed incomplete and removed from consideration.

Grade cards will not be accepted in lieu of transcripts.

All degrees and course work used to satisfy the required minimum qualifications must be submitted and from accredited postsecondary institutions. See our website at http://www.nocccd.edu/minimum-qualifications regarding accredited postsecondary institutions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, and either:

(A) Thirty hours or two semester units of course work or class work in understanding the needs of the older adult taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor; or (B) One year of professional experience working with older adults;

OR

Associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; and sixty hours or four semester units of coursework or classwork in understanding the needs of the older adult, taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This last requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor;

OR

Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area;
OR

The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Commitment to diversity. The applicant must be able to demonstrate how these factors relate to the need for equity minded practices within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience designing and teaching curricula responsive to the needs of historically underrepresented and/or marginalized students.

Master’s degree in related field.

Experience teaching Emeritus courses for adult education or community college.

Experience with curriculum development.

Possession of strong computer skills and ability to learn and effectively use technology and software.

Demonstrated ability to integrate 21st century learning skills and digital literacy effectively into instruction.

Understanding of, and the ability to implement, effective online instructional strategies.

Experience teaching distance education courses, including demonstrated experience with online learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas.

NOTE: Instructors are expected to comply with the training requirements to teach online or remotely as determined by Campus standards. Currently, NOCE instructors must possess one of the following to be eligible for an online teaching assignment:
  1. @ONE Online Teaching Certificate including all of the following training courses:
    1. Introduction to Course Design
    2. 10-10-10: Communication That Matters
    3. Assessment in Digital Learning
    4. Creating Accessible Course Content
    5. Online Teaching & Design Capstone

  2. The @ONE twelve-week Online Teaching and Design (OTD) course
