Job Summary:

Marist College invites applications for the position of Secretary of the Board of Trustees/Director of Stakeholder Relations in the Office of the President. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives/Chief of Staff (VPSI COS), the Secretary of the Board of Trustee/Director of Stakeholder Relations acts as a strategic partner to the VPSI COS in supporting the work of both the President's Office and the Board of Trustees. This individual has primary responsibility for all institutional governance-related matters, as well as all matters pertaining to Trustee engagement. The Secretary of the Board of Trustees will also manage relationships with other key constituencies and will undertake, from time to time, additional projects or initiatives on behalf of the President and/or the Board.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree and five years of related experience, with exposure to non-profit or higher-education governance preferred.

Essential Functions:
  • Works with the President, VPSI COS, vice presidents, and senior staff to develop agendas and supporting materials for standing committee meetings and full Board meetings
  • Drafts, publishes, and maintains written work product including minutes, resolutions, memos, reports, and correspondence on behalf of the VPSI COS, President, and/or Board Chair
  • Develops and coordinates a robust Board orientation and ongoing education program to foster Trustee engagement and growth
  • Functions as the primary point of contact for Board members as they interact with the College in connection with their institutional responsibilities
  • Oversees and maintains the permanent records of the Board, including the bylaws, institutional charter/amendments to the charter, Trustee terms, committee assignments, officer assignments, conflict of interest forms, etc.
  • Schedules and attends all Board-related meetings, assuring that notification of such meetings is provided and minutes are kept consistent with the Board's bylaws
  • Acts as a liaison between the Board, the President's Office, and a variety of internal and external constituents
  • Participates in departmental and College committees as a representative of the President’s Office
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and work independently to meet stated objectives. The ability to build and maintain relationships. A commitment to confidentiality. Strong project-management and organizational skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365, videoconferencing software, and board portal software preferred.
