Assistant Dean of Career Track Faculty Success

The Arizona State University’s College of Health Solutions (CHS) is seeking a dynamic faculty leader to serve as Assistant Dean of Career Track Faculty Success.

As a member of our College’s Faculty Success Hub team, the newly created Assistant Dean of Career Track Faculty will assist in the planning, organizing, and managing of processes to facilitate faculty success and career advancement among our interprofessional lecturers, instructors, and clinical faculty. The Faculty Success Hub takes a team-based approach to the recruitment, retention, and advancement of faculty through processes and structures that support excellence, promoting shared governance to facilitate faculty advancement and leadership across the College.  Among our team’s core values are a commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce and transparent communication that empowers our faculty community. The new Assistant Dean will collaborate closely with our Faculty Success Hub leadership team to carry out this mission in support of our more than 170 faculty.

This is a full-time, non-tenured faculty position at the rank of Clinical Professor or Principal Lecturer. Administrative appointments are made on a fiscal year (12-month) basis for one year terms, but are renewable contingent upon satisfactory performance and the needs of the university. If the administrative appointment is not renewed, the faculty appointment will be converted from a 12-month to a 9-month academic-year salary.

In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Career Track Faculty Success, the Assistant Dean facilitates the professional development and success of faculty in the following areas:

  • Overseeing and supervising career track faculty in their work;
  • Leading annual evaluation processes;
  • Coaching faculty to achieve short- and long-term professional goals;
  • Collaborating with student success colleagues;
  • Developing targeted recommendations for professional development for faculty under their supervision to promote further success;
  • Reviewing/approving professional development opportunities; and
  • Providing coaching to faculty in need of additional supports to ensure comprehensive professional successes.

The individual holding this position will also be responsible for reviewing, developing, and implementing policies and best practices to ensure equitable approaches to workload. They will work with Academic Success leaders to ensure faculty are teaching according to their work effort, and evaluating the appropriateness of teaching assignments.

Consistent with CHS’s mission and vision, the candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the health field (program area dependent on the candidate’s expertise) on-line and/or in-person and provide service to the college and relevant degree programs. Applicants must present evidence of teaching experience and a strong commitment to high quality teaching at the undergraduate/graduate levels.

Through education, service, and research, all faculty at the College of Health Solutions address one or more of our three major areas of focus: 1) The systems of health and health care; 2) Health and human performance of individuals across the lifespan; 3) Personalized interventions through precision health. Across these areas, we work to address complex and difficult health problems which require transformative collaboration, translational research and innovation. The College of Health Solutions is committed to translating scientific health research and discovery into practice to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in a health-related or applicable field for the position (Ph.D., J.D., DrPH., EdD., etc.);
  • Higher education and professional experience consistent with ultimate rank
  • Prior academic and/or clinical leadership experience, including evaluation of faculty performance;
  • Demonstrated ability to work, collaborate, and communicate effectively with diverse students, colleagues, community partners, and staff in a multicultural environment;
  • Shows commitment to our College’s Justice Equity Diversity and Inclusion Council’s mission and vision .

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of faculty leadership principles and professional development opportunities;
  • At least three years of experience working with interprofessional college students, faculty, and staff;
  • Evidence of at least three years of work related to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in the workplace and in evaluation;
  • Evidence of experience working on issues of university principles and practices, particularly in the domain of academic personnel actions and/or human resources;
  • Demonstrated ability to set and implement processes related to faculty productivity and assist faculty to achieve their potential;
  • Experience developing and leading information sessions, presentations, and/or workshops;
  • Experience developing, recommending, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures, and work-flow;
  • Experience mediating conflict;
  • Demonstrated success with effective communication, understanding, and empathizing.
