4. A writing sample consisting of a creative nonfiction essay or excerpt from a book-length creative nonfiction work of 15 pages, with the option to include 5 pages of poetry.

Position Purpose

The University of Central Missouri seeks candidates for a tenure-track position in Creative Writing at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning on August 7, 2023.
The position contributes to the department’s program in general education, including first-year Composition, and it includes a significant editorial role for Pleiades: Literature in Context.
The annual course load is 4/3, including one course release for work on Pleiades.

An MFA or PhD in Creative Writing with a specialization in creative nonfiction is required; candidates with an ABD may be considered.

Computer Skills


Previous editorial experience is required.
A secondary area of specialization in poetry is preferred.
The ideal candidate will have at least one significant publication in the field of creative nonfiction and at least one significant publication in poetry.
