Position Summary
The Data Science Analyst will contribute to original research projects of the Research Institute by creating machine learning models, beginning from the discovery phase. The incumbent will be work closely the Research Institute team to understand the needs and barriers to success of current students and graduates, and the skills needed by employers. Research questions will focus on student recruitment, completion, and employment outcomes as they relate to meeting the Dallas area workforce demand as well as the return on investment for Dallas College students. The Data Science Analyst will collaborate with the Executive Director and the team members of the Research Institute to design and execute projects to create statistical models which integrate multiple data sources and enhance student success efforts by identifying barriers which can be addressed. The incumbent will use machine learning to enhance existing predictive models or create new ones, solving supervised problems using regression or classification models and developing new approaches to unsupervised problems. The Analyst will use data visualization tools for dissemination and translate findings for internal and external stakeholder decisions and actions.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Expertise with quantitative methods using machine learning (R or Python)
- Experience with statistical analysis software
- Experience querying databases with SQL
- Knowledge of best practices in data storytelling, presentation and visualization Experience with data visualization software using or designing statistical libraries in Tableau or Power BI
- Experience in technical writing for publication
- Experience supporting the production of research reports for a variety of purposes and stakeholder audiences
- Experience with constructing, managing, interacting with, and analyzing large data sets
- Knowledge of the action research framework and experience supporting elements within the framework
- Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of diverse stakeholders through multiple channels

Minimum Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, data analytics, economics, quantitative engineering field or related discipline. Official transcripts required.
- Three (3) years in a data science environment preferably with higher education data using R or Python for data mining in complex data systems for development of machine learning models.
- Expertise in quantitative research methods, data analysis and developing machine learning models using R or Python applying statistical or mathematical concepts.
- ***Will be subject to a criminal background. Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint test.
- Create machine learning models beginning from the discovery phase focused on the barriers to success of current students and graduates, and the skills needed by employers, as well as the economic impact of Dallas College on the region
- Create quantitative models which integrate multiple data sources and enhance student success efforts by identifying barriers by enhancing existing predictive models or creating new models, solving supervised problems (regression or classification) and developing new approaches to unsupervised problems
- Applies research findings to support decision-making processes and change initiatives across the College and affiliated partner organizations
- Analyzes quantitative data generated by background research and outputs of original research
- Participates in the authorship of reports of research findings to be disseminated to internal and external stakeholders for the purpose of driving action and informing policy
- Completes required Dallas College professional development training hours per academic year.
- Performs other job duties as required.
