Duties and Responsibilities

The Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing ( MNSON ) invites candidates to apply for Diversifying Faculty in Nursing Education ( DFINE ) postdoctoral fellowship positions. The aim of DFINE is to increase the number of scholars from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups in nursing by providing a mentored post-doctoral experience to support the transition to a Loyola Nursing tenure track assistant professor position. This is a one-year postdoctoral fellowship position, renewable for a second year, with eligibility for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the third year.

The MNSON enrolls over 1400 students across three sites and includes 71 full-time faculty. Programs include a BSN degree with 4 study options, a MSN degree in nursing and healthcare administration, a DNP degree with tracks for preparation in nurse practitioner and clinical nurse specialist roles, and a PhD in Nursing degree.

We are dedicated to advancing nursing science to promote health equity through research focused on optimizing multilevel health outcomes of individuals, families, and communities, improving quality of healthcare and systems, and better understanding the human experience and mechanisms underlying health.

We support the evolving NIH National Institute of Nursing Research ( NINR ) Strategic Plan and encourage applicants with programs of research based on these guiding principles:

DFINE scholars represent the future of nursing in their nursing perspectives, research approaches, pedagogical philosophies and praxis, and demonstrated commitments to inclusive excellence throughout all aspects of their scholarly and nursing identity. Within the context of the Loyola University Chicago and MNSON missions, visions, values, and strategic initiatives, the postdoctoral fellow will:

·Conceptualize the role of a Loyola School of Nursing faculty member across the dimensions of research and scholarship, teaching, service, community relationships, equitable health and care, and inclusive excellence.
·Develop a progressive and supported research program leading to successful grant submissions and awards, publications, and presentations.
·Build a foundational knowledge of academia including governance structures.
·Create a network of current and emerging scholars at Loyola University Chicago and throughout the nation through structured programming and purposeful networking.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with programs of research framed within one of these five research lenses included in the evolving NINR Strategic Plan Framework:

· Health Equity : Nursing research, with its contextualized perspective, is ideally positioned to produce evidence needed to reduce and ultimately eliminate the systemic and structural inequities that place some population groups at a disadvantage in attaining their full health potential.
· Social Determinants of Health : Nursing research is well-positioned to examine social determinants of health—the conditions in which people are born, live, learn, work, play, and age—and how these determinants affect health outcomes.
· Population and Community Health : Nursing research can address critical health challenges at a macro level by focusing on interventions that affect groups of people with shared characteristics or who live within a shared area.
· Prevention and Health Promotion : Nursing research aims to prevent disease and promote health through the continuum of prevention—from primordial prevention that targets the underlying factors that increase risk of illness, to tertiary prevention that aims to reduce disease severity, symptoms, and progression – with a particular emphasis on eliminating health disparities.
· Systems and Models of Care : Nursing research can use its solutions-focused and person-centered perspectives to address clinical, organizational, and policy challenges through the development, dissemination, and implementation of new systems and models of care, including those that bridge clinical and community care with social factors and needs.
