The Boston University College of Communication invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Emerging Media Studies position beginning mid-January 2023 through June 2024.  The EMS program addresses social scientific aspects of new media with a particular focus on empirical analysis of data. We are looking for candidates who will be able to teach standard graduate courses in this area and who will enhance the intellectual and experiential diversity of our current faculty.




The projected teaching load will be three courses per semester and will include teaching one or two sections of social statistics and research methodology. Elective course offerings in specialties are encouraged.




Required Skills


Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field. Advanced ABDs will also be considered. Experience teaching at the university level, and a record of scholarly publications, while desirable are not mandatory attributes. Knowledge of statistics sufficient to teach an introductory graduate course is required.




The College of Communication is home to interdisciplinary research and applications. The Division of Emerging Media Studies interacts with the three departments within the College: Film & Television, Journalism, and Mass Communication/Advertising/Public Relations and also the College’s Communication Research Center.
