Assistant Vice President, Enterprise Infrastructure Technology Services

Job Overview
Provide leadership, vision and direction for the Enterprise Infrastructure Technology Services division. Independently anticipates technological challenges and opportunities by developing, implementing, and assessing a comprehensive strategic operating plan. Build consensus and develop collegial, collaborative working relationships with a broad range of constituencies. Drive change and transformation initiatives in support of overall digital transformation efforts.

Essential Functions

  • Serve on the Vice President's leadership team, participating in decisions affecting the units under direct supervision as well as the organization unit as a whole; counsels the VP/CDO on the University's technological challenges and opportunities; serve on various department, division, and university committees; represent IT at appropriate university bodies, committees, councils, etc., as requested; plan, direct, provide leadership, and execute special projects as assigned. Assist VP/CDO and executive leadership team in defining and implementing Digital Transformation. Evaluate current and future state infrastructure needs and solutions (cloud and others). Create a customer service-oriented culture. Lead change and transformation initiatives. Predict, recognize and manage cultural and technological changes within the organization and the corresponding transitions required. Understand technology direction and trends and their strategic business impact. Oversee IT operational processes across all teams, from change planning to incident management. Work closely with information security leadership in supporting organizational security and compliance requirements. Make decisions based upon priorities, schedules and an understanding of business initiatives with minimal supervision. Provide guidance, objectives, metrics and oversight to help teams maintain 24/7 uptime and availability of production mission critical customer facing services. Define and roll out the processes, practice and tools that teams will use to meet their service level objectives. Define and lead the rollout of new infrastructure initiatives that improve overall system resilience and efficiency. Availability for off-hours work related to 24/7 up-time and availability; willingness to support the team who has on-call coverage expectations. Ensure the Technology Department remains compliant with federal statutes and regulations, state and local laws, UC policies and procedures, and relevant contractual obligations; develop backup and continuity plans that anticipate emergencies and system problems to avoid failures of critical systems. Provide direct supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

Required Experience

  • 7 years of management experience. Experience with private and commercial cloud platforms in support of datacenter operations. 7 years of infrastructure operations experience. 7 years of Networking and Storage operations experience. Experience integrating new technologies with existing technologies. Experience implementing technologies with enterprise-wide impact. 7 years of experience managing 24/7 production operations for high-volume, business-critical cloud and datacenter infrastructure services.

  • 15 years of proven, IT leadership in an engineering-centric, product development, and delivery organization. Includes experience as a successful IT business leader who under-stands and leads technology's application for driving real business value. Also includes a proven track record of exceptional technical project management, prioritization, and communication Ability to drive and lead change Broad knowledge of information technology processing systems, concepts, and methodologies to include cloud General knowledge of IT infrastructure: LAN/WAN, Infrastructure Architecture, Firewalls, Security General knowledge of Windows & Linux clients and server technologies, including virtualization Highly service-oriented; reliable, responsible, self-motivated and enthusiastic Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff Skill and knowledge in ITIL/ITSM processes related to Incident Management, Service Re-quests, Event Management, Access Management, Change Management, Knowledge Management and Escalated Incident Management Knowledge of corporate IT, data centers, ticketing system (ServiceNow), monitoring soft-ware implementation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement approaches Strong business and financial acumen. Solid understanding of how businesses operate to ensure job holder can carry on conversations with all functions of the enterprise Understanding of and skill in developing executable strategic plans Demonstrated skill and success in managing an organization including budgeting, hiring, developing, and positioning resources in support of the function Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to successfully engage with a diverse set of stakeholders across the institution, including students, faculty, staff, vendors, and partners. Well-developed critical thinking and diagnostic skills Able to develop collaborative, productive working relationships across university groups Experience with and enthusiasm for operating in an agile DevOps oriented organization and culture
