Position Information

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

This position may require the incumbent to be on-call 24/7 to assist with systems maintenance and/or resolving emergency or urgent issues. The incumbent is required to maintain contact with their campus outside of their normal working hours on a regular basis per the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement requirements. Remote contact shall include telephone, cell phone, wireless data access device, remote monitoring of any hardware or software device, and/or electronic mail notification regarding the status of a campus system.

Conditions of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The salary range for this classification is: $4,372 - $10,792 monthly.

Major Duties

Under the general direction of the Sr. Director, Infrastructure Services, the Systems Analyst will be responsible for documenting, designing, and supporting the infrastructure of the campus data center. Configures, troubleshoots, monitors, and maintains operating systems including but not limited to; the Active Directory authentication system, creating campus environments in cloud services in MS Azure/AWS, authentication workflow with cloud-hosted applications, load balancing systems, configures/administers enterprise cloud services, and infrastructure monitoring systems. The incumbent will support the campus virtualization systems, and data center components; be responsible for monitoring infrastructure, and data center performance, providing tier 3 support for IT, and reporting, troubleshooting, and resolving issues independently. Review and test server and infrastructure functionalities to all infrastructure services. The incumbent assists the Infrastructure teams with operations and must be capable of maintaining up-to-date knowledge of technology and trends around infrastructure technology and services. This position requires a professional demeanor and to maintain IT professional standards of anonymity for data that reside on campus servers and computer systems and confidentiality of all information.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or business, or equivalent training and applied experience with a minimum of five years of experience in information technology with at least two years managing operating systems in a large computer center.

Experience with Microsoft 0365, Azure, AWS preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of :
  • Thorough knowledge of infrastructures area demonstrated by an understanding and use of the general principles, practices, and theories pertinent to the specialty
  • Internal operating system technology including hardware and software upgrades.
  • Designing, developing, configuring, technology infrastructure, network, compute, storage, and virtualization.
  • Campus-defined systems, applications, and standards
  • Structured cloud design and deployment techniques
  • Cloud infrastructure configuration management and systems analysis
  • Network configuration, programming, and protocols
  • VMware, anti-virus protection, server backups, server operations, administration, and network communications.
  • VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) servers, desktops, pools, thin clients and related peripherals for all campus departments participating in virtualization

    Abilities to:
  • Configure, install, and maintain the enterprise data center infrastructure
  • Use performance monitoring software and interpret results.
  • Perform preventative and remedial maintenance to the operating system(s) such as installing operating system patches and fixes.
  • Perform work independently and troubleshoot issues with cloud and on-premises application programs.
  • Integrate and apply work-related knowledge to achieve innovative solutions.
  • Anticipate the impact of problems and solutions on other systems.
  • Evaluate existing and proposed systems and recommend upgrades and/or modifications.
  • Monitor and track highly detailed and moderately complex to complex data, information, and/or systems in a dynamic environment.
    . Analyze logs, and system events, and monitor security alerts.
  • Ability to attend and complete training on Microsoft 0365, Azure, AWS

    Responsibilities

    40% Configures, troubleshoots, monitors, and maintains operating systems including but not limited to, the Active Directory authentication system, creates campus environments in cloud services in Azure/AWS, authentication workflow with cloud-hosted applications, load balancing systems, configures/analyzes enterprise cloud services, such as Windows/Linux operating systems, Microsoft O365 Suite, ADFS, and infrastructure monitoring systems such as Nagios and its equivalent. Install, configure, and maintain virtual desktop infrastructure software for campus labs and desktops. Maintains, issues, and tracks Certificate Authorities for infrastructure and other applications and/or hardware. Install, configure and maintain IT systems software for campus server computers and devices. Work closely with the project teams, Security and Compliance personnel, application developers, and other teams in creating, supporting, documenting, and analyzing functional, scalable, and secure systems, infrastructures, and applications from design and development through implementation to support the University.

    30% Technical Design and Implementation:

    Provide technical support to the campus virtualization and the hyper-converged systems, Windows and Linux Servers, Storage Area Networks, backup, and data center components. Responsible for monitoring infrastructure, and data center performance, provides tier 3 support for IT, and reporting, troubleshooting, and resolving issues independently. Perform backup and recovery operations, and assist Infrastructure teams with operations

    25% Administrative and Communication:

    Provide thorough communications to management, staff, and peers. Maintain a professional demeanor and IT professional standards of anonymity for data that reside on campus servers and computer systems. Maintains confidentiality of all information. Responsible for disaster recovery processes for administered systems. Create and develop plans for operating systems. Review and test server and infrastructure functionalities for all infrastructure services. Create documentation and PowerPoint presentations of various instructional components at a level appropriate to the audience. Document changes to components and their interdependencies Create and maintain procedures for identity and access management operations Provide information and training to peers for support redundancy. Stay current with infrastructure technologies, services, and trends.

    5% Perform other duties as assigned.
