Work Schedule

This is a regular, full-time, hourly position. Willingness to work a flexible schedule as necessary in order to respond to emergency/urgent situations is required. This may include working extended hours, evenings, weekends and some holidays.


Typical Activities

This position provides executive-level leadership, oversight, support, and guidance to a comprehensive student government auxiliary organization, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). The Executive Director will ensure continuous improvement of ASI operations and serves on behalf of CSUSB students. The Executive Director for ASI serves under the authority of the University President and administratively reports to the Division of Student Affairs.

Primary Functions:
  • The incumbent will be responsible for overall hiring, development, supervision and coaching of ASI professional staff. The incumbent will provide data and recommendations to the ASI Board of Directors on budget, policies and procedures for the effective operation of the ASI, and will administer ASI budget and policies in manner that reflects best practices in higher education auxiliary administration.
  • The incumbent will be responsible for the preparation and administration of the ASI annual budget for the ASI Board of Directors, and will have primary responsibility to ensure effective management of said budget as well as provide timely oversight of annual audits. The incumbent keeps the ASI Board of Directors and CSUSB Budget Offices fully informed of all fiscal and operational matters pertaining to the auxiliary.
  • The incumbent will ensure the effective assessment of programs and services, along with meaningful development and training for student leaders, student assistants and volunteers. The Executive Director will coordinate the ASI Board of Directors' on-going orientation activities and intentional leadership development curriculum in partnership with the Director of the Office of Student Engagement.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the development and direction of benchmarks, new programs and objectives to ensure agency departmental goals are met and are in compliance with ASI Constitution and Bylaws. This includes providing directions and guidance and policy making and interpretation of existing governing documents.
  • As prescribed by the ASI Board of Directors' policies, the incumbent will facilitate and review expenditures for services, materials and supplies necessary for the maintenance and continued function of the office and programs, and will prepare and oversee the preparation of specifications and bid packages as appropriate.
  • The incumbent will provide ongoing evaluation of human resources policies and procedures and employee manuals, and will prepare a variety of reports for the ASI Board of Directors, the campus and the Chancellor's Office as directed. The incumbent will insure that all vendor agreements made on behalf of ASI are appropriate and in compliance with established rules and regulations.
    The incumbent must have the ability to coordinate, analyze, advise students, provide guidance, evaluate, observe, interpret policies and procedures, laws and regulations, interview, investigate, comprehend, and formulate solutions to organizational and student issues.
  • The incumbent is an integral part of CSUSB Student Life and ensures ASI is in compliance with all University, State, Federal laws and policies and procedures.
  • The incumbent will serve as a voting member of the ASI Board of Directors and will participate as appropriate on all ASI standing committees, along with other campus-wide committees as necessary, and have an understanding of the California State Student Association.
  • The incumbent will perform other related duties as assigned by the ASI Board of Directors and the ASI Advisor.



Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization; or a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and two - five years of experience directly related to the job functions.
The position is often required to work outside the normal 8 am-5 pm office hours as dictated by Student Government meetings, events, other programming, and internal processes. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.
