Job Details

Wilkes University seeks a forward-thinking, engaging, and collaborative leader for the position of Dean of the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy. The new Dean will be expected to begin service in June 2023.

The Nesbitt School of Pharmacy was established in 1996 and graduated its first students in May 2000. The School is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education through June 30, 2029 and awards the Doctorate of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree to about 62 students annually. There are two academic departments: the Department of Pharmacy Practice and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The School is known for its close mentoring relationship between faculty and students, its emphasis on experiential learning, its functional ties with major health care partners, and its excellent post-graduate and professional placement results. In 2022 the School joined the Passan School of Nursing and the School of Education to form the College of Health and Education, providing further opportunities for collaborations across disciplines. The Nesbitt School of Pharmacy Dean will report to the Dean of the College of Health and Education and also serve as the College's Associate Dean.

The new Dean will provide dynamic academic and administrative leadership, and will play a key role in helping Wilkes University continue to advance its academic excellence. Successful candidates must have an earned doctorate degree in a pharmacy or health-care related discipline. The Dean will have significant relevant academic leadership experience; a strong record of scholarly achievement, teaching, and service; and a commitment to shared governance in a collegial environment. In addition, a substantial record of innovation and an understanding of contemporary pharmacy practice and the evolving and competitive landscape of pharmacy education and higher education is necessary. The successful candidate will also demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity and inclusivity, and to the well-being and success of students, staff and faculty. Experience with a record of responsible financial stewardship and strategic use of resources and identifying and securing sources of external funding is required.

The Dean shall chair the School's Executive Committee, a strong and experienced leadership team, and will also collaborate and support the leadership of the University through formal, informal and ad hoc participation, such as membership on the President's Advisory Council and the Provost's Deans Council. In addition, the Dean will have the strong visionary and leadership skills to guide the University and the School to new levels of achievement, distinction and recognition by:

  • collaborating to articulate and implement an ambitious School-level strategic plan that aligns with the University's "Bridge to the Future" strategic plan, which is available at: 2021 to 2023 Strategic Plan | Wilkes University, and with the subsequent strategic plan for 2024 and beyond;
  • building, allocating and managing human and financial resources necessary to achieve the goals of the strategic plan;
  • providing leadership that will foster innovation, establish new opportunity, and increase national recognition;
  • strengthening and developing key relationships within the University to enhance the over-all student experience
  • advocating on behalf of the School internally and externally at the local, state, and national levels.
