Job Summary:

Performs a variety of tasks related to maintaining the University's buildings, facilities, and grounds

Hours for this part-time position are typically Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Duties/Physical Demands:

Picks up trash and/or litter from University buildings and grounds; empties trash receptacles. May sweep and mop rooms and hallways; may dust and perform general cleaning of rooms; may clean windows. May vacuum and shampoo carpets; may strip and wax floors; may clean and sanitize restrooms. May mow, trim, and rake grounds; may remove shrubs and trees. May sow grass and renovate turf areas; may apply herbicides to lawn. May pick up and/or deliver equipment and supplies. May perform cleaning/washing duties in dining hall dishroom or pot and pan area.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a high school diploma or GED. No experience required. May require driver's license.

This position requires the ability to successfully pass a Post-Offer Pre-Employment (POPES) physical.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the use of either cleaning equipment/materials or lawn equipment/materials Ability to understand and follow directions

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

For positions primarily assigned to perform custodial duties: Constant simple grasping. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, stooping and use of motor skills that require firm grasping, fine manipulation, and pinching.. Occasional squatting, kneeling, crawling, and climbing. Frequent lifting of materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasional overhead lifting of materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Minimal lifting and carrying/transporting materials weighing up to 70 pounds. For positions primarily assigned to perform grounds and special facilities duties: Constant simple grasping. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, stooping, climbing and use of motor skills that require firm grasping, fine manipulation, and pinching. Frequent operation of equipment. Occasional squatting, kneeling, crawling and climbing. Frequent lifting of materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasional overhead lifting of materials weighing up to 30 pounds. Minimal carrying/transporting materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Minimal lifting of materials weighing up to 70 pounds. For all positions, there is periodic assignment given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant physical situations. There may be considerable noise generated by machine operation, exposure to chemicals and some machinery may present an element of personal risk of injury due to an accident.
