The Psychology Department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is recruiting a tenure-track Assistant Professor in applied cognitive psychology who studies how cognitive principles impact human behavior in real-world settings. Potential areas of interest include but are not limited to applying cognition to the study of medical/health decision making, education, environmental behavior, human factors, human-machine interfaces, human-animal interactions, legal issues, national security/public safety, athletic performance, and cognitive mechanisms associated with mental health or substance use. Experience with techniques such as EEG, fMRI, neurostimulation, virtual/augmented reality, or others that go beyond behavioral approaches is welcome but not required for the position.

A Ph.D. in psychology or a related field is required. Other required qualifications include research experience in applied cognition; a successful history of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals; evidence of impactful teaching in psychology or related areas; and evidence of the ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred qualifications include relevant experience post Ph.D.; experience with research techniques such as EEG, fMRI, neurostimulation, virtual/augmented reality, or others that go beyond behavioral approaches; research interests that complement current faculty expertise (e.g., attention/perception, spatial cognition, decision making, executive functions, and/or cognitive neuroscience); research interests that connect to existing multidisciplinary endeavors at UNL; a successful history of external and/or internal funding; evidence of mentoring students in a research setting; and teaching experience in the field of cognition.

Responsibilities include maintaining an active research program, including the pursuit of external funding, and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in cognition (e.g., introduction to cognitive processes, and human memory). Given that applied cognitive science is integral to a number of other disciplines, the successful candidate could be a valuable contributor to multidisciplinary research efforts involving multiple units on campus (e.g., Center for Brain, Biology & Behavior; Rural Drug Addiction Research Center; Minority Health Disparities Initiative; Nebraska Athletic Performance Lab; Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families, and Schools; Center on Children, Families, and the Law; and the College of Education and Human Sciences). The Department of Psychology prioritizes an inclusive working environment that seeks out diverse perspectives, and we encourage scholars from historically excluded groups to apply.

To be considered for the position, go to: https://employment.unl.edu, requisition F_220150. Click “Apply to this job” and complete the information form. Applicants will be asked to upload a cover letter; curriculum vitae; a research statement; a teaching statement; a statement describing past and future efforts to advance diversity and inclusion in research, teaching, and outreach/service; up to three publications; and three letters of reference. The statements and publications will need to be combined into a single document for upload. Review of applications will begin October 5, 2022, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The University is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
