Head, Podiatry Library – Health Sciences Library

Summary:

The Health Sciences Libraries at Temple University seeks a collaborative, innovative, and service-oriented librarian to join its staff as the Head of its Podiatry Library. The successful candidate will be a leader as well as a team player. Temple University Libraries serves the Temple community and beyond, including more than 35,000 students; over 2,000 full-time faculty; and researchers and visitors on Main, Center City, and Health Sciences Center campuses in Philadelphia and on our Ambler and Harrisburg campuses. We are committed to providing research and learning services, offering open access to our facilities and information resources, and fostering innovation and experimentation. Our collections total more than four million physical and digital titles, over 260,000 print and electronic journal subscriptions, and more than 700 research databases. We also collect, preserve, and provide access to a broad universe of special collections, including rare books, manuscripts, archives, photographs, and more. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of the Health Sciences Libraries, the Head of the Charles E. Krausz Library of Podiatric Medicine is responsible for the leadership and strategic development of services and programs at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (TUSPM) Library. The TUSPM Library maintains library resources in podiatry and related disciplines.  Oversees, promotes and evaluates library services at the Charles E. Krausz Library, providing reference, research, education, and outreach services to support the clinicians, staff and students at TUSPM. Supervises a medical librarian and student workers. Working as part of a team, provides a range of search services in support of the systematic review service, animal alternative, and faculty credentialing service. Serves as co-lead for the HSL student library advisory committee (SLAC) with the Learning & Engagement Librarian. Works as part of the larger cohort of health sciences librarians located at the Ginsburg Health Sciences Library.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA accredited institution. Two years professional experience in a health or science library. Experience providing reference services. Experience teaching or giving presentations. One year of experience supervising professional and/or support staff. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

This is a hybrid position (on-campus and remote).

Required Skills and Abilities:

*Excellent oral and written communication skills.

*Demonstrated ability searching PubMed, Web of Science, CINAHL or other biomedical information search systems.

*Ability to work collaboratively with librarians, faculty, staff, students, and administrators.

*Demonstrated commitment to professional development.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

*Experience in an academic health science library environment and/or a teaching hospital library.

*Knowledge of current thinking regarding the “library space as a service”

*Understanding of collection development trends

*Demonstrated organizational and project management skills

Compensation:

Competitive salary and benefits package, including relocation allowance.
